Another acoustic performance from the 'My First Gig' series, this time with Mark Lizotte (aka Diesel), singing the jazz/blues standard 'Since I Fell For You'.
The song was originally written by Buddy Johnson in 1945, and has been covered by a multitude of artists, including the late Eartha Kitt, Jimmy Witherspoon, Bonnie Raitt, BB King, and it appeared on Diesel's first album 'Johnny Diesel And The Injectors' (1989). The album reached #2 on the Australian charts, no small achievement for a debut.

I remember seeing the movie “The Delinquents” and hearing this song. I’ll never forget it because whilst watching the movie in Sydney there was an earthquake in Newcastle and it shook the cinema so badly we had to evacuate. I can’t remember if we ended up seeing it all. That is my memory of this beautiful song ❤

Jimmy's like fine wine. He was great in the late 70's and early 80's, better in the late 80's and through the 90's. Now, he's aged to perfection with a deeper richer flavor. Largs Pier Hotel, anyone? Love from the USA Jimmy! Now, I have to discover Diesel. We didn't get to hear any of this incredible music in the USA on the first run. Our record executive are a-holes. .

Great song , most songs I have ever heard by JB or Diesel that as indicated as "stripped back " at its core bring out the best of the song and vocals , the true art of any musician to play acoustic or basic instrument without all the extras and still sound great.

Wow!!! From listening to the original Lenny Welch 50's version, to this complete opposite bluesy rock version, it just makes my love for this excellent song even stronger. This brilliant, classic, soulful song should be covered more often and lends itself to any genre of music. Thank you boys, well done!

these 2 DID do a tour together. I saw them play together back in the late 80s when Diesel's band the injectors supported Barney's band, and Diesel also played lead guitar in Barneseys band - they continue to work great together.. another tour would be wild..

I found Jimmy last summer through a friend from Melbourne. She raved about Diesel at the time as well, but she threw in too many "he so cutes" for me to follow up. Now that I've seen the lad, I feel pretty stupid for waiting this long! What a talent! We need to champion a documentary show in the US that should be titled something much shorter than this, but with the same message - "While you were listening to that 80's and 90's pop crap, here's what Oz got to enjoy!........

great interview, Crazy to see Johnny with no hair! when I met him, he was rollerblading around the stadium before the gig, his voice was wicked good then and has just got better, like Jimmys with age

I could just hear Jimmy singing Etta James' "At Last" here, would have been a great cover for Jimmy. Diesel, what a great talent. Diesel wasn't as widely recognized as Jimmy. That's just how it is in Australia. Not enough culture to go our and listen to these guys live and support them every month. It's all about radio and "what can I get for free". Artists just don't get paid enough

We did Since I Fell For You as a cover band. Poor Johnny/Mark. Musician/Artist written off as a pop boi. And now only people with ears know the difference. His blues ('specially with Wilson) are...just really quite good.

Saw both of these guys play last night at a outdoor concert Jimmy still rocks like a 20 year old and Diesel plays the guitar as good or if not better than anyone out there and I mean anyone even Slash, but that’s my opinion
