Your kind words made my day ❤️ Now while I think overall I’d rate the Farnham/Barnes version highest, I do love this one too because 1) family harmony just works different and 2) as you noticed yourself, Jimmy did hit several upper register notes in this one that he didn’t hit in the Farnham version- reason being of course that John Farnham and Diesel took on the higher notes but in this version Jimmy had to do these himself (although Swanee hit a couple himself too!) I was at this concert & trust me they were just improvising.. No rehearsal.. Maybe a few words together about it at some stage through the day but this was totally improvised.. You absolutely have to hear Swanee's song Mathew.. Beautiful song..

Jimmy and John used to be heavy drinkers, and I don't think John was at his best here - but it's always good to see them together. I'd love you to react to Swanee's 1982 song Temporary Heartache. It's different from what you'd expect from a big voice like his!

If you want to see something same but different, don't bother with the Vanessa Amarosi duet (terrible distortion, sadly) but go straight to River Deep/Proud Mary with Mahalia.

Not sure this showed hpw good Swanee actually is....but was great to see Jimmy taking more of the higher parts...but imo No one does it better than Farnesy and Barnsey. Although I have a seen a version that Mahalia and Jimmy did that was pretty damn good as well.

At the risk of incurring Kappy's wrath, I think Swanee may have been a bit overawed knowing his part would be compared to Farnham's. He started off way sharp and sang too hard resulting in inaccurate pitching and the inability to reach intended notes at the end. Jimmy, if anything, sang better than he did in the Farnsey/Barnsey version. I've seen Swanee live at pub gigs doing his own thing and he's a great singer. He just tried too hard here.
