Long-time Parrot Head here, Buffett lived the life so many of us wish we could have lived. There was nothing like a Buffett concert and the corresponding tailgate parties. So sad that's gone forever.

So sad when Buffet passed. He was a genuinely happy-go-lucky, cool dude, and an extremely talented artist as well. J.J. Watt was one of the best NFL Defensive Lineman of all time. He just retired last year. He is 6'5", 288 lbs, by the way.

I would have preferred your first listen was the studio version so to respect the original lyrics. “ I blew out my flip flop, stepped on a pop top, bruised my heel had to cruise on back home. But there’s booze in the blender and soon it will render that frozen concoction that helps me hang on.” His live shows were great, but better for those who already knew the songs. RIP, Jimmy.

While in college in northern New York State (near the Canadian border) in the 1990s, my roommate would play Jimmy Buffett whenever it was -20F outside. One day during a massive snowstorm, he bought a small plastic kiddie pool into the dorm and filled it up with water. When I arrived back home after class, he was sitting in his bathing suit in the water while drinking Jack Daniels. Jimmy Buffett's greatest hits were blaring on the stereo. He turned the room into a tropical paradise even with a foot of snow outside and minus 0 weather.

I don't normally pay much attention to celebrities, but I cried for 3 days when I heard Jimmy had passed. His songs were the soundtrack to most of my life and all of his fans will miss him greatly. Talk about a life well lived! His last album was put out posthumously, called "Equal Strain On All Parts", features one Sir Paul McCartney playing bass on one of the songs.

So sad to hear of Jimmy Buffett's recent passing. He was a great singer-songwriter, musician & actor. His songs had such a laid back island feel to them. I had a couple of his albums. He had a lot of hits especially in the 70's-80's such as "Son Of Son Of A Sailor", "Come Monday", "Fins", “He Went To Paris”, “Cheeseburger In Paradise”, “One Particular Harbor”, “Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes”, "A Pirate Looks At Forty", “Volcano”, “Boat Drinks”, “Pencil Thin Mustache” etc.

I don’t even drink but everyone knows this song and knows it’s fun and it gets a party started. Jimmy Buffet lived way down in Key West so another reason why he had this laid back easy going Caribbean songs. He’s had many artists sing with him on this song. Alan Jackson sang “Its 5 O’Clock Somewhere” and Jimmy Buffet joined him on the song and video of I remember correctly, which is kind of a sequel to Buffets Margaritaville. Jimmy was a nice nice guy too! Well loved here in the States. Oh and his name is pronounced Ike Buff-it.

In April 1982, Key West, the largest and farther island in the archipielago off the coast of Florida, declared (tounge-in-check) secession from the United States and called itself The Conch Republic. They "celebrate" independence in April 23 as part of a week-long festival. They issue 'passports' as souvenirs, and even wrote a National Anthem. There is a bar called after Jimmy Buffett. Conch is a common name for large sea shells.

This was his signature hit & yes, 'Why don't we get drunk, and screw' is the whole title of another funny tune. Jimmy is associated with fun in the sun for us American. His vibe is all about leisure & fun. Also, country singer Alan Jackson did a song called 'It's 5 o'clock somewhere' & Jimmy is featured in the video &the song. Very fun song & video.

I looked at the comments and I’m sure someone said, but I didn’t see it … you pronounce the ‘t’ at the end of Jimmy’s last name. That’s implied with two “t”s. I found out after he passed that Jimmy’s music was primarily played in the US and Canada. The rest of the world sure missed at lot. He loved playing live, and it shows how much he loved his audience. He often explained where his songs came from at his concerts. He was brilliant. His reach in the music world was amazing. If you want a chuckle, listen to “Why Don’t We Get Drunk” but not on KZfaq. 😆😆

I have been to over 30 Buffett concerts since December 1981. They were always a blast. The audience was as interesting. There were volcano hats with smoke swirling up from them. Hawaiian shirts, grass skirts, coconut bras, hats that looked like sharkfins and more. The best two off the top of my head are: one woman wearing a full length fur coat which when she opened it she had string bikini on (in January at -15 F and a group of people that had fake parrots, huge fake parrots (3-4 foot tall). Hours before the shows people would tailgate in the parking lot. Inflatable pools were set up and people were eating and drinking while sitting in them. One show a guy brought his dog Captain Frank and had him dressed as a pirate. The dog had been hit years before by a car and lost his left eye, left ear, tail and left hind leg. Captain Frank wore full regalia: velvet pantaloons, white satin pirate shirt, a huge pirate hat with a big ostrich plume. He also had a cutlass and dagger, dull of course, on his waist sash and a thigh high boot on his right hind leg. To top it off C.F. had an eyepatch covering his empty eye socket and a real wooden leg on his left hind. The guy that owned C.F. brought a huge RV, so C.F. spent the concert in the RV after having been uncostumed. Our RV was right next to them. And the post concert tailgate lasted all night. We Parrotheads fully enjoyed ourselves when Jimmy and the Coral Reefer Band were in town or the state... or neighboring states. Some of us would get together at a beach for the annual Parrothead regatta and spend a week sailing, fishing, snorkeling, eating, drinking and of course blaring Jimmy Buffett music. Rest in peace, Jimmy. You are missed!

This was not a true representation of the song but it is an accurate reflection of Jimmy's spirit. Jimmy was playing to the local crowd there in Houston Texas I think. And he changed some of the lyrics to be specific to them. There are lots of Buffet songs that will blow you away.

His name has a hard T at the end-like being buffeted by the wind. By this time of his life, his voice was going but still performing to huge crowds. It surprises me that you’ve never heard of Jimmy Buffet but I suppose the beachy vibe isn’t found in Britain the way it is in the States or Australia. Although the majority of Jimmy’s most popular songs have a strong touch, he had a number of serious songs as well. If you haven’t figured it out, his fans are called Parrot Heads.

Here is a suggestion... as you ponder American country music take a listen to Gary P. Nunn's rendition of Jerry Jeff Walker's (a good friend of Jimmy Buffet by the way) tune "London Homesick Blues". It's a story of a country singer-songwriter stuck in London and pontificating about his desire to return to his native homeland, Texas. It has become the "National" anthem of the state of Texas. Love your channel.

I had the privilege of hearing Jimmy Buffet a couple of times and his music is truly classic especially to those of us who spent allot of wonderfully fuzzy times down in Key West. Jimmy Buffet’s concerts were always great fun and a bit rowdy with the margaritas and beer always flowing and certain herbal items lapping in the air. Take a listen to his music from the studio to get a real idea of how it sounds normally.

I much prefer the original recording. This song almost became a parody of Jimmy's sound and to listen to it and think it sums up the whole of his catalog is a huge mistake. This is the song everyone knows (well, not you Brits apparently) and yes, it's fun and Jimmy loved to play around with it in his live concerts. But there are many songs and many recordings of this song that would have been a better introduction to his music.
