I had Jimmy buffet land at the same airport I did and got to tour his Jet and his Albatross. I then went to his concert that night near brown field. They use the Albatross to fly over the crowd to warm up the audience before the concert. I remember the air traffic controller telling Buffet to be on the lookout for a Cessna 182 at his 12 o’clock when he was coming out of Burbank and I was flying over LAX. That was me. He said he didn’t have me but had me on the fish finder. He said he would divert and went by my 3 o’clock position. One of my favorite aviation stories and I tell it whenever anyone will listen.

Saw JB for the first time in 1974 at the Main Point in Bryn Mawr, PA and several times there after. This was before all the Parrot Head craziness started. I saw him again in the early 1990s at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia and the audience made so much noise and partying you couldn't hear the concert. That put me off going to JB concerts for a long time. Did see him a few years ago at CB Park in Philadelphia and the sound system was able to overcome the crowd noise from the PHs.

Hey, I saw him in 74 at the Main Point too! What a cozy venue that was for seeing acts that became wildly popular. Saw Leonard Cohen, Bonnie Raitt, Leon Rebone, Chris Smither, Cheech and Chong, Tom Rush, Don McClean….so many more wonderful artists at the Main Point. Great memories of that place!

I was at a club in Dallas named Mother Blues on a Monday night. I had no idea who was playing that night and didn’t much care but it turned out to be some guy named Jimmy Buffett and another guy with him, both playing acoustics. I grabbed a beer, got a seat and thought I’d check this out, drink a few beers and leave early. Didn’t have to look very hard for a seat as there were maybe 6-8 other people in the main room. I listened to a few songs and knew that this fella was gonna be somebody. He played Monday- Friday and I was there for every one of them. He semi packed the place on Friday night with maybe 20 people. I was right for maybe the first and last time in my life about this Jimmy Buffett guy becoming a somebody. I did see him again some time later- took our 10 year old son who slept through most of the show. Funny thing is when he asked the crowd if anyone saw him at Mother Blues back when, probably 1000 people yelled and scream. Jimmy and I both got a big chuckle from the response. RIP Mr Buffett- I bet you’re in Paris, looking for answers to questions that bothered him so. Mike

I grew up with Jimmy, as my Mom was a fan from 1975 on. The records were always on until 1982 or so when she remarried. I always kinda liked him, but my music tastes got stranger when I inherited cases of 78s of 1905-50. That's a Rambler Ametican, they brought back the smaller 1953 body as 1958 was a recession year. The American, as a smaller small car remained in production into the mid '60s.

This is a decent slug of info for a new fan or explorer. There was plenty that was missed but I’m sure you had to pick and choose due to the time window. The editing is a bit rough and the interview sound bites were butchered. The end bit with the planes and cars woefully omitted Buffett’s most famous plane, the Hemisphere Dancer, which is still displayed at Margaritaville Orlando.

3 mins of info spread over 10 mins due to pacing, speech phrasing and repeating material. I guess that's technically a genius approach to monetize a YT channel. But this vid was a mess. How does a video that discusses JBs film appearances not mention FM!?!?

Ya know what's "funny"? Is that his real estate development in Hardeeville, SC, called "Latitude Margaritaville" goes un-mentioned. A nice place, (I guess, not having never been in there), but I drive past there as infrequently as possible since it's LITERALLY out in the "sticks", but it's on my job route. Not much in the vicinity except a highway called "278" No grocery stores, (or for that matter, NO stores within a 5-10 mile radius), but the retirement homes there run, (or so I've heard), around $3-400K. MAN !!! Grocery delivery and UBER guys must flourish there. 'Just saying...I loved the guy and his music, but perhaps a questionable call for buying the property in the middle of nowhere.

@geoffrobinson729310 ай бұрын
All this about Jimmy and in the last two sentences you mention he had a business jet and a "Boeing"..... Your research really did not find out who Jimmy really was. One big void is you missed his love of flying. The Boeing is a Steerman... a very cool radial engined pre World War 2 plane. What he liked even more was his Albatross sea plane . He was rated to fly several sea planes as well as float planes. Music was the first business. Flying was a love. No mention of his island hopping "airline". I don't think you know that much about Jimmy.

Wow, how could you miss the breadth of his interest and activities in aviation…including his ratings, his many planes including a Stearman and three historic Grumman seaplanes? (Yes I know you said he owned a “Boeing” [which the Stearman is] but that could be nearly anything in the company’s long history.) Do better research.
