Dear Mr Hughes, I'm English and I'm not watching these to revise for exams, but I am interested in American politics and history and I love your videos, they're really informative, you are very impartial and neutral which helps people learn, and I like your use of music and graphics etc to make your videos memorable. If I were American and doing a civics course I would want you as my teacher. Please keep up your videos because I and many others think they're great.

Solar panels in 1977 were very inefficient and in their seminal state. They were not nearly as functional or powerful as they are today.

well it is a problem, a dude who wasn't elected pardoned the guy who resigned and made him president (and to a large extent the guys, he wasn't even vice president) and pardoned him of very serious crimes (the little girl with the flower was just a nail in the coffin of his administration, ford was a bookend although i think the doorknob nearby might have been smarter), i would say that the nation was pretty legitimately outraged by it.

How did Reagan actually raise the national debt, and Carter didn't. Is Carter very moderate? You would think Reagan would spend less money since he was anti big bureaucracy. Does anyone know why Carter Balanced the budget and Reagan didn't. Not saying Reagan was a bad president or anything, I'm just wondering why Carter was more moderate with spending?

Great video Mr. Hughes! We didn't get past the Vietnam War in my World History class last year so I love when you cover things that happened after that. But one quick question, I've read a few things that said President Carter gave Panama the Panama Canal back during his presidency. Whats up with that? Wouldn't that lose the United States a lot of money and anger the citizens?
@hiphughes10 жыл бұрын
Some conservatives believe that idea, "we bought it".. which can be argued. The context was a rebellion against us in Panama and the threat of a more overt struggle of the canal. The treaty was a twenty plus year transfer and guaranteed the US quasi control over the canal. Its a more nuanced form of foreign policy for sure but the results have panned out, I think. I try to stay non biased, so there is an argument for keeping it.

carter was a disaster to me and was an awful president, there was nothing moral about this man, he was lazy and lousy, thank god the late JFK was the last true president who actually has ACTION.

Afi James he wasn’t lazy at all, he just took to looking into every detail of the government and its operations. He was the very opposite of lazy, however, he was horrible at delegating time and simply wasn’t the hyper active president the screamed the will of the people that the voters expected...

While we can't excuse Carter's faults, it's unfair as it is ahistorical to blame him for things that were out of his control. But hindsight is always 20/20 and Reaganites will continue to cleave to their narrative in favor of their guy. I'm neither a fan of Carter or Reagan, so I have no dog in this fight. I think Carter overestimated what he could do as president and got slapped hard in the face by reality. He was blamed for an oil crisis not of is making and well underway before he stepped foot in the oval office. He was blamed for the Desert One disaster when a Delta Force team headed to Tehran to rescue our hostages from the embassy was shot down by the Iranians over the desert, something that was chalked up to a sandstorm. When his ambassador Andrew Young opened a backchannel to the PLO to discuss bringing them to the table with the Israelis for another Camp David style accord, in the mold of the peace achieved between Egypt and Israel, Carter was pressured by the Jews to fire Ambassador Young.
