When Weird Al covers you, you've arrived. We've known this for years. What goes understated is that Al is probably one of the single greatest musicians of his time. NO ONE else has been able to not only emulate the style of every other artist on the planet, but often to do it better than THEY did. Through Al, I've been introduced to music I never would have touched with a ten foot pole. Man is a Legend.

Al endured bullying all through school. He was 2 years younger than all of his classmates, graduated valedictorian and was bullied in college because he was an architect major at only 16 years old. His friend Joel Miller tells of some horrific attacks on Al in college. He got his degree, but gave it all up to pursue his love of music and transcended all of the bullies that tortured him.

@joesr31
@joesr31 3 жыл бұрын
yeah but its hard to expect a host to be a big fan of every guest they have. I think his usual hosting style is just how he is for someone who is "average" to him. As in, its his job to interview them, but he don't really like them or hate them.

I have interviewed plenty of people. Two former Presidents, Governors, actors, NFL Hall of Famers, etc. As an interviewer, your usual style is/should be similar to Jimmy’s. Upbeat, positive, but not too much so. In this interview, he’s straight up fanboying and gushing, which is awesome. But that is totally impossible to expect to be the norm for any interviewer. For instance, I interviewed Trump in 2014 and Obama prior to that (2013 I think). I approached those interviews with a serious, fair, unbiased attitude, because that was the appropriate method to use in those cases. However, when I interviewed Mike Epps (an unusually long interview-20 or 30 minutes of raw feed), it was mainly me asking obscure questions about his work and also gushing like Jimmy is doing here. When I interviewed Calvin Murphy and Jim Kelly (Basketball Hall of Famer and NFL Hall of Famer, respectively), they were also unusually long interviews (Kelly was 33 minutes long and Murphy’s was almost an hour of raw feed), and they also were mainly comprised of me asking about obscure games they played, or famous moments in their careers, or different topics of note related to them. Basically my favorite/best interviews I have conducted were with famous people/athletes who I genuinely liked and who didn’t have a handler on hand to cut the interview short. And most importantly, the best interviews were with subjects that I knew I would never ever get the chance to interview again (Jim Kelly being the exception since we both live in Western NY and I’ve talked to him informally a hundred times). Also, given that I reported for a local cable news network, it’s hilarious to me that I spent 90% of the above interviews asking questions that I knew had a 0% chance of ever being on television. The subjects also knew that, but could obviously tell that I was genuinely interested and thusly were accommodating.
@Glamador
@Glamador 3 жыл бұрын
@@augustushaynes1311 I feel maybe something was misunderstood with my intent here. Jimmy's usual "style" feels fake and insincere, not professional. He makes an attempt to imitate what we see here in this clip, poorly. But the common counterargument I hear to that statement is that he is laughing and cavorting *genuinely* with his guests. I posit that this clip disproves that position. *This* Jimmy is sincere. Normal Jimmy is not. And that is why I hate watching him.

It's crazy that Weird Al has been relevant for *37 YEARS*. It's insane. So many artists - pretty much all of them - get stuck in their past selves eventually. Sometimes it takes one year, sometimes it takes twenty, but they all get stuck in their past and end up playing the same hits over and over and over until they retire. And yet Weird Al just keeps finding new things, new styles that interest him and that he parodies either directly or through his style parodies. He's part of such a small group of musicians and he deserves amazing praises for it.

Okay, could people in the comments quite arguing about trivial things?: A: People who like weird Al and feel hurt that he isn't being acknowledged, he isn't seen much by the public eye anymore. He does get guest appearances in shows and is Milo Murphy in 'Milo Murphy's Law,' but if you don't memorize the voice cast of your shows, you probably won't know if you're part of the younger demographics. He's most well-known for his parodies, and those are something not everybody is interested in. He is great and both of the men sitting on that couch I admire for their achievement, but insulting millenials won't do you any good, you might in fact be one. If you grew up with any real access to the internet, regardless of how crappy it was, (ie: born late 1980's or later,) you are considered one. B: Jimmy Fallon is also either being insulted or put on a pedestal. I can't defend him there. He's only a talk show host, he gets to talk to celebrities as a job, and he isn't entirely mature about it either. But I can say to treat him like a talk show host. Nothing more, nothing less. I like Graham Norton. But I don't worship him. C: Lin Manuel-Miranda deserves that parody. He deserves his praise. Not all of his work will be amazing, but that musical has still managed to be the hot ticket- for many different types of people, young and old. I know that my history teacher last year loved using it because the curriculum was for the Revolutionary war, and that went through almost every major event. D: Weird Al does deserve respect too. Even if you don't know him too well, you do know that Lin Manuel-Miranda and Jimmy Fallon are massive Weird Al geeks, and that their mark for peaking in music is Weird Al noticing you, it deserves a Google search before you comment.

Jimmy is right, Weird Al puts on the greatest live show you've ever seen! I was lucky enough to see him about 30 years ago and was it incredible! I'll never forget it! He actually changes costumes like every other song and push every ounce of blood, sweat and tears he has into his concerts. You will not be sorry if you go. It's worth the price of admission just to see the Yoda Chant. Insane!!!
