It was a slap, not a punch. I’m sure a punch would’ve caused a different reaction. But I mean it was a joke about his wife’s medical condition and apparently there’s been some beef between them… so was he wrong? Sure, but it’s understandable. It’s possible to be disappointed and empathetic. And it may seem like “one simple joke” to us outsiders.

He said it is also not uncommon to see a public school kid pick up a trash can or other heavy object and knock another kid out. Sure the kids get put out og school but they don't care. Public school is not what you remembered from the 60's and 70's. In my day kids had to be able to read/write and do Math to graduate. Now they just give them a diploma if they put a warm body in a desk enough times.

The way Chris rock handled the situation is unbelievable. I mean being slapped on live TV while being watched by millions of people and at the same time maintaining his cool is insane. He deserves respect for that for he did not let his emotions or feelings get in the way . I don't know what other hosts would have done in such a situation.

He could have NOT joked about a colleague's health condition in front of the entire world and then it would never have happened. Would people be praising him so much is she'd had a leg amputated, or had spoken out about having an eating disorder and he'd joked about her dress size? This is the conversation that should be happening. Screw the drama, they were both wrong. Let's make physical AND verbal abuse the focus of conversation.

@@feliciasingleton4849 no. A disingenuous apology would be one during his acceptance speech. He needed to keep that same energy. You don’t slap someone and then 10 mins later be like “oops sorry”. A more genuine apology makes sense to come after a day of reflecting and relaxing. And calm down with that “take his Oscar away” crap. He didn’t stab somebody. And his behavior was understandable, even if extreme. But he still deserved that award. Y’all overreact more than Will.
