Stumbled across this, brought the memories flooding back , my dad played the button key accordion, and Jimmy Shand was his favourite and my mums too.. I’m 59 and still love the Scottish accordion music x ,

I danced to Jimmy Shand all over Scotland in my younger years. The last place my wife and I danced to Jimmy was in the Church Hall in Scotlandwell. My uncle transported a few of us in my Grand Father's Ice cream van. Happy memories.

Jimmy was unique. He was a one off and admired by everyone and always ready to praise talent wherever he found it. I knew him well having sung with him on TV. When he was knighted at the age of 90 Kenneth McKellar and I went to his home in Auchtermuchty and when Kenneth asked him why he had chosen to travel to Holyrood Palace rather than Buckingham Palace to be knighted his reply was as ever short leaving nothing more to be said, "Edinburgh's nearer!"

Maybe for the time being enough about our coveted Scottish dance music,Which NEVER gets boring, that is. CAUSE...it's CLASSICAL music.(see to melody and form)!!!!!But in terms of your Hawker Hunter? Maybe you as a former Hunter pilot? Well,in Holland we've the DHHF (Dutch Hawker Hunter Foundation) but it all is supervised by the British Exeter. They were the 2nd generation of jet fighters, produced in the UK.for European countries. The first generation was the UK Gloster Meteors.(first production still without an ejector seat.) But later.....we turned away from the English fighters and ordered the US Starfighter. The first American fighter,as said. ERROR!!!! During the same Gloster Meteor generation, the Republic F84 Thunderjets had been set in in Holland (CTL)..Just THEY were the first American fighters. And the jet trainers at the time? For a long time still the Lockheed T33!!!!! But next...again back to Scottish Dance Music

Hey,Avino....well....reading your response,I first didn't know anymore, what it was about.Well, about Shand timeless,I suppose, Certainly Shand is timeless and from the beginning,a source for the other bands,to which he was a trendsetter. Making himself popular by this? Oh NOOOO!!! It only was his message to the folks and the world. He,himself was a modest,self-effacing man!!!! We could do with more Shands,if there were....we had a perfect world!
