There’s something for everyone in his long filmography. It was his approachability that made him such a popular star. It also helped with the ladies. He casually dated until he found his true love, Gloria. She already had twin sons from a previous marriage. He accepted them as his own until they had their two beautiful twin daughters.
One of the sons tragically died in the Vietnam War. The others are there to carry on his legacy.
They fondly remember what life was like with their parents. They both worked as a team with similar attitudes and parenting styles. Jimmy was devastated when he lost Gloria and became more reclusive, but he still found a way to carry on for them. The children remember their father going over lines and responding to fan mail but always finding time for them. His everyman attitude was not a farce, and neither was his distinctive southern drawl. Anyone who met him would realize it was all real.
Jimmy didn’t do much posturing. He wasn’t overly outgoing, but he stuck to his principles at home and outside. That meant saying what he thought about his roles and standing against colorizing old movies. He was more like any other father than fans may think. He had a gift for storytelling and poetry that left audiences rapt with attention. He wasn’t strong with discipline, but the home was full of love.

Jimmy Stewart is probably my favorite actor. I'm also proud of his service in WW2. He was a real airman during the war. He wasn't serving for show, he did the same thing all the airmen did. He flew missions every single day and faced the gun from the anti-aircraft guns. My father was a bombardier during WW2. He also didn't talk much about it other than telling me how scary it was down where the bombs were. He could see all the flak coming up from the anti-aircraft guns were and having to kick out the bombs that got stuck. He had to make sure that all bombs had been dropped before they left to fly back to England. Plane s often made rough landings and a bomb aboard could have been a huge problem. God bless Jimmy and his family. I wish my Dad was still around to answer questions about WW2. God bless all our veterans, whatever war(s) they fought in. My father served in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam (according to his grave marker at the Beaufort National Cemetery).

I was privileged to have seen Mr. Stewart on the London stage in the mid seventies in “Harvey”. He was more age appropriate for the role at that point in his life. It was beyond wonderful. And, at the end during the curtain call, he stepped out to take a bow, looked back and opened the gate of the set’s picket fence for Harvey, who also got mad applause. I sweat you could actually SEE Harvey on that stage. A wonderful theatre memory!

Vicky! It was truly an epic theatrical experience. Quite magical, in fact. I also saw Anthony Quinn do Zorba the Greek as well as Yul Brynner as The King in the King and I, both in Toronto. Sadly, it was one of Yul’s last performances as he was quite ill with cancer. He was wonderful despite it all although it was sad that he Couldn’t do the “Shall WeDance” number which is my favourite. He stood still while the actress danced around him, making it so poignant. At any rate, wonderful theatre memories!

He was a great actor; I saw so many of his films and he was always convincing in his roles. His "funniest joke in the world", which can be found here on KZfaq, was delivered with that slow delivery that had you hanging on every word. Rope and Vertigo are probably the two films I liked the best outside of his westerns which is where I first ever saw him act. One of a kind.

A great man Talented, Gifted actor, A real American Hero, I never heard a mean thing said about him. I admire him so much. Talented, to all appearences a great husband m father with a great marriage , What I wouldn't give for just one of those. Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation is the 1st of his movies I saw. But asking my favorite I would have a hard time picking my top 10. If I have to pick one I would say I liked BandoleroDean Martin, George Kennedy, Raquel Welch. Whats not to like great cast. One thing I will always remember is how much Carol Burnett loved Jimmy Stewart and on her last show he surprised her and Tim Conway said he had a new talent that Carol should listen too. It was Mr Stewart singing Rag Time Cowboy Joe. It was Carols reaction that made it fantasstic. Mr Stewart was her favorite actor it was very touching. I bet you can see iit on youtube

I just ❤ JIMMY Stewart…. One of my favorite actors of all time…. Jimmy was a bit player earlier in life??..😮😊. But he found his true love, Gloria,❤️later in life. There is a Jimmy Stewart museum in his home town of Indiana.. it is really cool to see. He Never refused an autograph 😊 and always appreciated his fans. . A Great man and actor and a GENTLEMEN. I have so many favorite movies,, I can’t name just one.. “Mr Smith goes to Washington”, “Harvey”, “Philadelphia Story”, “Shop around the Corner” “Anatomy of a Murder” “Rope”. “Rear Window”, and “Vertigo”.. . That’s just off the top of my head. There are so many movies i love I wish I could have met him and got his autograph.. he does not live far from my home town and back in 1983 when he turned 75 there was a huge celebration and tribute for Jimmy in Indiana. It lasted for several days. Lots of people came. A Jimmy Stewart statue was placed in front of the courthouse and is still there today. He came back for the Celebration. I was there but was too shy to ask for his autograph,, I sure wish I did.. that would have been very special to me.❤️

I really like Jimmy Stewart in The Glen Miller Story and many of his others. My favorite remains his role in Shenandoah. A scene when he comes face to face with a young Union soldier. As a father who is searching for his son to bring him home, the viewer gets the realization that his character is holding back the desire to revenge his son. Then Jimmy asks the boy his age, and I believe he says '16'. His anger dissipates and he lets the boy go. That was when I realized what an amazing actor he truly was.

James Stuart was, in my opinion, outclassed all other male actors of his ilk.A genuine man, husband, father and grandfather. There will never be anyone to surpass him as an actor.

I was fortunate to share a quaint visit with Jimmy Stewart in September 1986 when attending the Telluride Film Festival. Jimmy had traveled to the mountains of southwestern Colorado to honor the film director, Michael Mann, who Jimmy gave credit for revitalizing his film career after World War II. Jimmy and I enjoyed an evening walk along the main street of Telluride. He was incredibly humble with an inviting personality very different from most celebrities. Jimmy might have been a bit surprised that I didn't ask for his autograph. I never ask for autographs of celebrities I might meet. The only autographs I seek are for books. We were soon interrupted by a young man asking for Jimmy's signature. Jimmy was accommodating and was expecting the young man to hand him something to write his signature on. Instead, the young man turned around facing his back toward Jimmy. We could see the many autographs on the back of his denim jacket. He handed Jimmy a sharpie, and Jimmy took it but was confused. The young man kept saying that Jimmy could sign anywhere on the back of the jacket, but Jimmy was taken aback. I don't know if Jimmy felt insulted, but Jimmy handed the sharpie back to the gentleman. Jimmy politely said he would not write his name on that. Alone, Jimmy and I continued our stroll up the street. I asked Jimmy which of his movies were his personal favorite. I bet you can guess his answer.
