What’s the Best Halloween Sequel?
How’s it goin, my name is jimmy and this is the channel where I talk about my favorite horror movies
This is the second ranking I’ve done. My other ranking was: RZH2, Resurrection, RZH1, Halloween 5, Halloween 6, H20, Halloween 3, Halloween 2, Halloween 4, Halloween 2018 and Halloween for frame of reference.
It’s changed quite a bit since I made that list back in 2020 so let’s get started with the worst movie in the franchise, Halloween Resurrection.
I don’t know what I was thinking back in 2020, maybe all the time trapped inside got to me but yeah, I had this movie second-to-last and after revisiting it multiple times for my collab with CZsWorld and just having it on during the Fear Fest marathons, I’m 100% positive this is and will remain the worst Halloween movie.
The only two redeeming qualities for me are that the Myers house is almost a perfect replica of the original but it looks aged and seemingly abandoned which is honestly sick.
That house is just so iconic and I’ve never understood how they thought they could just use a completely different house in Halloween 5 and nobody would notice but even when I was a little kid watching it on Fear Fest it was completely obvious to me.
So knowing that the franchise gets more and more rushed after that movie, it’s cool to see the Myers house get a little more attention to detail than expected.
And the Katie Sackhoff decapitation scene, as poorly put together as it is, it’s a good shock moment that gives the movie just a little bit of energy.
I’ll also give it a bonus point for coming up with the idea to live stream a night in the Myers house since I could see that being an alternate universe marketing idea for Halloween kills but beyond that this movie just sucks.
I’m already prepared for how mad people are going to be with how low I have H20 on this list, but even though it’s not my favorite Halloween movie, I think its ending is pretty powerful and to betray it just one movie later with this pile of garbage really bums me out.
I think it’s a well-known fact that I’m like obsessed with the masks and Michael’s overall look in this franchise and despite the fact that the mask stays consistent here, it looks horrible
It’s literally one step removed from the crap quality masks people use for memes.
I get why the franchise was rebooted after this because no matter what angle you look at it from, it’s terrible.

Time really does fly by huh. Its been 4 years since halloween 2018 came out then we were all waiting for halloween kills then halloween ends and now its all over. It hit me today that this version of michael myers is gone and will probably not be revisited. Thank you jimmy for all the videos that you have created and all the hard work that you put in these videos for all the halloween fans! 🎃 🔪

Only for the better. 2018 & Kills Myers are 1 of the best. The actor himself is the best performer of Myers but it's how they used Myers, could've been way better.

Halloween II (1981) is the best sequel in my opinion. It was the first Halloween movie I ever saw back when I was 5 years old in 1985. I had nightmares for years about Michael Myers because of that movie! Love your videos bro!

I really like your appreciation for Ends. I came out of it kind of confused, but appreciating it being a change. I watched it again the next day in Peacock and I really do like this film. This whole trilogy is saying that Michael isn’t the ultimate evil. He’s a tool, a vessel, for evil. In some of the older films he was the personification of Samhain, but in this trilogy he is just one man with a concentrated amount of evil inside of him. It’s not so apparent if his “evil” is truly a mental illness alongside his surroundings couple with an odd physical dexterity to endure, or if it’s something more ethereal. What this trilogy shows is that great, true evil is everywhere and everyone is evil to some degree and that it can be contagious. This is something grounded in reality, honestly. It seems that Haddonfield has history of nut jobs, from the guy mentioned by the graveyard caretaker in 1978, to Michael, to the residents and then to Corey. If DGG kept the original ending, we would have seen Myers masks being produced en masse at a modern day Silver Shamrock, which would then speak to a more supernatural element. I don’t know, I just really enjoyed the film and this new trilogy entirely. I really don’t get how so many people missed the point when seeing all three as one narrative. It’s been there since 2018. Dr. Sartain was trying to be Michael’s first protege. He wore his mask then tried to kill Hawkins. He was infected by that evil.

The problem is none of it is developed enough. And a lot of fans are piecing together things that most likely weren’t even the intent of the writers. Halloween 2018 was decent. Kills was fun. Ends was sloppy and lazy and unfinished. I will never understand the praise it’s getting. Even as a different story, Michael aside, it’s just not well done.

Ends is the shittiest version of Myers I ever seen. 1 of the shittiest Halloween movies i've ever seen in general. This is the worst Halloween Myers movie in the franchise by far. You definitely have bad taste in directions.

Ends was a good movie, its probably 5th for me in the ranking list. I think now the "anger" period for most is coming to an end for it i hope people watch it and appreciate it for what it is and what it was doing! Great listing but Halloween 78 will never be beaten for me. 2018 and kills replaced H2 for me. Great ranking though and i love you had balls to put H Ends at number 3 Just want to say ive really enjoyed your content when i first found your channel in 2020, i will not be going anywhere as i love your content keep it up! Jimmy I would love some retrospectives on the F13 movies and maybe a ranking too? Only if your interested tho, in my opinion these videos would suck if they were forced but I and probably everyone else can see the love you have for these movies and it just makes these videos so much better to watch

My list: Halloween (1978) Halloween (2018) Halloween 2 Halloween 4 Halloween 3 Halloween H20 Halloween 6 Halloween 5 Halloween Kills Rob Zombie's Halloween Halloween Ends Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 Halloween Resurrection I suppose my justification for the position of Halloween Ends (since that's the hot topic right now) is I can appreciate DGG taking creative liberties and experimenting with the script, but I just feel like this is the wrong film to do that with. Marketing aside (I don't watch trailers because I don't want any spoilers), not only is it completely different in tone from the rest of the trilogy-in it's attempt to defy expectations, it completely shattered what I expected based on the writing in the past 2 entries-but the title, without the marketing, implies this is the last hurrah of the DGG universe Michael Myers. The romance plot should have been the subplot. If Corey died, then the entire plot amounted to nothing. If Corey somehow survived and becomes the new Shape, then we have to call BS since no one mentioned he disappeared at the end of the film. I have to question DGG as a writer to begin with. He was clearly bored with writing the slasher formula. He's on record contradicting himself several times. He says Michael is not supernatural in any way but he is depicted as entirely supernatural in his ability to survive as well as his physical strength. What the angry mob does to him in Kills would have killed anyone no matter how "extraordinary" they are in his view. Second, the idea that they only wanted two films but asked the studio for a trilogy because they had too much stuff they couldn't do with two films leads me to believe this was more of an experiment from the writing team than an actual closure to the story of Michael. I will reference the idea that marketing was a hindrance, and it could be, but the title alone gave me the expectation of a focus on Michael and Laurie. I don't feel the trilogy should have closed any other way. Not trying to be a try hard or contradict anyone. Everyone is entitled to enjoy the film. That's just my 2 cents on the whole thing. Halloween ends never happened it was just a dream, a visión that Laurie wanted for her book how Michaels evil can pass on to other people and that’s how she created the character Corey for her book in reality michael Myers disappeared after kills there is no way in hell that Michael being what he was is killed easily in ends.

I'm glad I'm finding people who love Ends like I do. It is #2 on my ranking and I will defend it until the end of time. Even with the trailers/tv spots, spoilers, and DGG and JLC warning us that it would p!ss people off, I went in with a completely open mind and was blown away with the story, the performances, and score. For me it was the best of DGG's trilogy and makes me more excited to see what he does with The Exorcist (still one of the greatest comedies of our time).

True. It's actually my 3nd favourite movie in the franchise. 2nd would be the original 1978 movie and the 1st is 2007 remake.

Man, I’m so drawn to ENDS, I love it!! I’ve also watched it 5 times! On Halloween night when it came to picking a Halloween movie to watch… Ends it was!!

#1 - Halloween - The start of it all. That’s all that needs to be said. #2 - Halloween 4 - I’ve always loved this installment and felt it was an amazing sequel. However, they BIG TIME missed the boat in the writing department with what they came up with for Halloween 5 & 6. If anything, they need to revisit Jaime Llyod and what could’ve been with how Halloween 4 ended. #3 - Halloween: H20 - Really could have been and should have been the ultimate ending for the Laurie Strode saga. #4 - Halloween 2018 - Good story, and well produced. #5 - Halloween 2 (1981) - This movie scared me when I first saw it. They did the hospital very well. Great installment. #6 - Halloween 6: The Curse Of Michael Myers - it’s this high pretty much for the kill scenes, and having an entirely alternate version. I like Paul Rudd Tommy a little more than Anthony Michael Hall Tommy too. #7 - Rob Zombie’s Halloween - Decent vision of Michael Myers and how he came to be. #8- Halloween Kills - The first 15 minutes of this movie is marvelous. They utterly did a beautiful job of capturing how insane Michael is with his escape + the throw back scene is downright incredible. #9 - Halloween 5 - You can tell they threw this movie together by how ridiculous the story is..could’ve and should’ve been better. Probably the worst mask of them all too. #10 - Halloween Resurrection - Not as bad as the rest of the pack. Certainly not a favorite. They did Laurie a major disservice and gave us a meaningless standalone. Jim’s crushed skull is one of my favorite kills throughout the entire franchise. #10 - Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 - I like the repurpose of Danielle Harris as someone entirely different in the two films from Rob. I like Laurie finding out about Michael as she did, but making Dr. Loomis into a greedy book-writer is both far-fetched and foolish for the characters legacy. Laurie going nuts would be accurate for what happened, but this movie just isn’t great. #11 Halloween Ends - The only installment I haven’t watched a 2cd time. I saw this in the theater and literally left disgusted. Cory should’ve been a character involved since Halloween 2018. Probably would’ve been a more effective result if he was a more vested character. Michael’s behavior makes absolutely no sense and we barely see the guy, which he’s kinda the point of the franchise and what most fans very arguably look for in this series. No explanation to the miracle of The Halloween Kills ending. #12 - Halloween 3: Season of the witch - No Michael.

Halloween 5 wasn't 'thrown together'...it didn't make much money, so people began making up excuses to explain why. As for the story...it featured the same basic story as 1, 2, and 4....Michael stalks people, Loomis stalks HIM...THAT is a Halloween movie. Most of what's been done since has just been the franchise trying to fix something that wasn't broken. But 5 remained true to the classic premise.

I agree the writing, directing, music, and acting for H Ends is very good. I think its biggest problem is it's not a straight-forward Halloween movie. It's actually more of a spin-off.

I usually agree with Jimmy on a lot but DGG trilogy ahead of Halloween 2 is wild lol. I understand people have different opinions and recency bias might play a part but that just blew my mind. I do love Halloween 2018 prob #3 or #4 for me. But no way can Halloween kills be ahead of Halloween 2. But regardless keep the videos coming Jimmy.

My favorite way to watch the timelines is 1978 - Ends. Those 4 in order. Did it this Halloween and it made me appreciate Ends a lot more. Happy to see other people who appreciate and recognize what Ends did👍

it didn’t do much of anything imo. Was a mess and from what I’ve read Gordon Green didn’t even give a crap to finish the trilogy because he wants to move onto the Exorcist. Can’t really see why people like the movie, has terrible editing, terrible dialogue, and barely any Michael at all. It’s just all so random. Easily near the bottom of my list. I respect your opinion tho

One thing I will say about all the Halloween movies is the actors are great and carry the movies even the Rob Zombie movies have a solid cast (one of their greatest redemptions). You spoke about Halloween 4 and how Jamie Lloyd and Rachel Corathers worked great together as a believable charge and protector dynamic, without them Halloween 4 would have been a much different movie and I say not for the better.

For Halloween Ends I honestly don't like it mainly because they killed Michael, idk what else I was expecting with the title but I honestly feel like this should of been more of a ending for Laurie and Allyson and how they finally got over or got away from all of this and the town and ended that chapter in their life but as for just finally killing Micheal I feel like that ruins everything that is even scary about Michael in the first place. The reason he has always been so scary is because he is this unstoppable force of evil that we know nothing about or how to stop it so to have some nerdy little guy beat up Micheal and steal his mask and then an elderly lady and teenage daughter take him out for good just rubs me the wrong way.

My dad took me to see "Halloween II" at a drive-in in my hometown. I was seven, and it scared the crap outta me! 😁 Also, I saw part four every weekend it was out. I was 14, and not QUITE as scared as I was when I was a kid!

I LOVE '80s slasher/horror movies too and that whole era. My top five favorite from this franchise are Halloween (1978), Halloween 4, Halloween 6, Halloween (2018) and Halloween Ends. My favorite movie from this franchise is Halloween (2018) because its the movie that introduce me to the franchise and the first one I saw in theaters. I enjoy Halloween 5, Halloween 6, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends more than most fans and Halloween 2 and Halloween H2O less than most fans. This was another good ranking video and breakdown.

My favorite timeline is 40 years later. But my placements of the trilogy are spread out throughout the Halloween franchise. Ends in the middle of the pack, Kills I put somewhere in the top bunch and 2018 is my second favorite. I'm not as hard on Ends as most but I am upset with the director's choice to make the last movie more of a new idea rather than finishing with what the first two movies were setting up. Would I like a reshoot of Ends? Yes, but it's not happening.

Love ya pal, great channel, but Ends was extremely disappointing. Kills had its issues with logic and dialogue but at least it was an actual slasher flick. Ends goes out of its way to avoid being a slasher flick or honestly even a Halloween movie. You always talk about fall atmosphere, besides one party I could have been told this took place in June and I’d have bought it. And having Corey go from a great kid to a serial killer with some personal tragedy and a crazy mom? There needed to be more there to earn that heel turn and there just wasn’t. Michael is the epitome of faceless evil, so the kid he teams up with is written as as sympathetic as can be with a star crossed love story attached? There were ways to make a Halloween movie fresh and different but still make a Halloween movie, and I feel they didn’t. To each his own I suppose.

I discovered your page because of czworld and it’s interesting to see how low 5 and 6 are on the list. Maybe I just have a soft spot for both movies since I was introduced to Michael Myers cause of my older sibling. Definitely like 4 more so than 5-6 hah. Def not a fan of either Rob Zombie movies yet directors cut is definitely far better aha.

The fact that Halloween 2 (not Rob Zombie's) ends with a shot of the burning mask while "Mr. Sandman" plays makes up for everything else that was bad about the movie.

I noticed you said the last time we saw the Myers house before Resurrection was in Halloween 5. We actually also saw a better interpretation of it in Halloween the Curse of Michael Myers. Just wanted to point that out, granted I haven't finished the video just yet though 🤷🏻♂️

Our opinions are wildly different (ie; I like the idea of Michael crying, I love the 2007 reboot, and H20 is one of my fave sequels), but I appreciate a different perspective on the franchise. I didn't get much enjoyment from Kills other than the kills and the music, and I hated Ends. I'm glad that you can appreciate something that I don't, it's what makes fanbases awesome. If everyone had the exact same opinions, discussions would get so boring. Idk how to end the comment so peace and love on planet earth :)

I've seen a lot of people comment on how Corey's final moments mirror the opening babysitter scene, but I've yet to see anyone call attention to how Michael's canonical motivation in that timeline is to recreate his first kill. It seems to me like that parallel between Corey and Michael is sort of the rosetta stone to whatever that movie is trying to say. Some additional observations: Corey Cunningham is alliterative like Michael Myers....but his name also rhymes with Laurie. Does that mean anything? Who knows....

Rob zombies H2 grows on you when watching it right after one and the white horse thing is a throw off but can be used if you look at it from Michael perspective and what he sees since its never really explained. I feel rob tried to give the fans everything we always wondered but in the little amount of time he had.

Ends imo is very misunderstood. Rewatching it on Peacock the other day, there's alot of interesting, new aspects added, that are flying right over people's heads. It might be David Gordon Green's most meta entry in his three.

I agree with the top and bottom of your list. I may also agree with the middle of your list. I haven't given it sufficient thought to say with certainty. Much is down to what I prefer. I'm not the biggest fan of the supernatural elements of the franchise. I prefer more grounded material. That tends to skew my preferences.

Halloween kills isn't just one of my favs in the franchise, it's one of my favorite movies period. I Love this movie and I really like 2018 but I just can't swallow Ends. JMO👍

I can’t explain why but I put the Curse of Michael Myers in my top 3. I have no rational explanation but when it’s on tv, not only am I watching it, but I’m engrossed in it. I really hate the ending but I understand that D Pleasance died during filming and they pieced the ending together with what they had already filmed. But I agree, it’s one that feels like a real Halloween movie with the look, the pacing, etc.

You are bang on with Halloween Ends. Especially with it being misunderstood and mis-promoted. When the credits rolled on opening night, I was thinking, "Did I like that?" But as Don't Fear The Reaper played, I noticed I was smiling and felt warm feelings. I've watched it twice since and both times I out loud said, "Yeah, I really like this movie."

Wow, our order is pretty darn close. You and I basically flip-flopped Halloween (2018) and Halloween III, but other than that, we just have a few in slightly different slots. Maybe it’s pure nostalgia but the OG Halloween 2 is a top 3 for me. Just love the feel and atmosphere coupled with the fact you can splice it with the original and have a double feature.

Halloween H20 land Halloween ends. Decided to go in different directions. H20 by moving it to California. Works for me. Ends David Gordon Green wanted to do something different. I enjoyed both films. Trying to do something different with both films.

Enjoyed the ranking video, so thank you for that. Admittedly, I'm more in alignment of your previous ranking, but I certainly do understand how your views of the various movies can change over time. Certainly the big surprise for me was not only RZ H2 movie up quite a bit on the list, but the preference for the director's cut. My problem with that is, Laurie needs to be a likable character for the movie to work and like what Resurrection did to you for H20, RZ H2 director's cut and portrayal of Laurie in that version has retroactively tainted my opinion of RZ H1. Of course these are opinions, and no list would be wrong (so long as the 1978 original is on top). I appreciate you sharing you opinions as well as allowing me to express a few of mine.
