Oh I love him! Been a fan of his for ten years now - one time he was sitting across from me on the train in NYC and when I finally worked up the courage to say hello we had a lovely conversation, he is a truly kind person and I will never forget that interaction with my storytelling and comedy hero.

Mike Birbiglia is a treasure. My family didn’t say I love you either, and I only realized how weird that was in the last few years. Very few hugs either. I feel like I’ve known this guy before in another life. He’s so relatable.

I love Mike B. My favorite standup of his was his "What I should have said was nothing!" That's when I feel in love with his work. The celebrity golf tournament story is HILARIOUS...I still laugh thinking about it. And by the way...the ending of this interview warmed my heart. I love you to Mike ❤

When my friend and I are arguing about something stupid sometimes we will just randomly say I love you, sarcastically, to remind us that we are being petty. Love is supposed to cover a multitude of sin, if you are genuinely loving someone, without passive aggressiveness. If you care about someone, you might say something your friend is not always going to like, or agree with. I Love You! is an ice breaker

In an episode of everybody loves Raymond, Deborah tells Ray he doesn't say I love you often enough, and he confronts his parents about not saying it enough to him either. They're italian. I think it just depends on the family.

The paternal side of my Italian family was very demonstrative - huggy and touchy. The maternal side of my Italian family was not - no hugs and only kisses on the head. It varies by the family. In the US people didn't used to hug as much as they do today. Thank Leo Buscaglia - the Hug Doctor.

I have the same sleep disorder as Mike, though not as severe. (No sleepwalking) I have yelled in my sleep and punched my girlfriend more than once. I'm terrified of hurting her. So I came up with a solution, because I sleep on the left side of the bed and face her, and she faces me, so I said why don't I sleep on the right and face out, so I won't be able to hit you. (Because I always sleep on my left side) She said no, she's used to sleeping where she's always slept, so now I have to worry. (I don't do it a lot, but sometimes I'll do it like 3 nights in a row)

You mention your wife alot and I wonder if you had this experience. i've always made a point of never telling my family i love them because in every true crime program about someone going missing the last thing they say to family is i love you before the go missing & they always end up dead, not taking the risk that i might get bumped off if i do.
