He wrote it, and it's really well-written. Who cares if he's sitting or standing when he tells it? Comedian guests on late night shows don't come up with these stories on the spot. Most of them are telling a prepared story/anecdote. They're all doing material.

I have watched standup for over 60 years. Jeselnik does not necessarily have the best material I have ever seen-although it is very, very good-but he has, hands down, the best timing. His pregnant pauses allow the audience to fill in the punch line, and then, he goes off on a totally separate tangent. He is brilliant.

He's not wrong about the crowds sometimes, I saw him in Chicago and this dude, who apparently was there as a last replacement with his friends, was so offended by everything he said. He was standing next to me, I finally had to confront him because I could hear him over Jeselnik. He was admonishing the crowd, calling them terrible people, etc. I finally told "do you think anyone here cares?" He got all in my face, his friends noticed came over and actually took my side, lol, 2 of his buddies took him away from me, his 3rd friend apologized and bought me a drink, he explained to me that that one guy didn't know who Jeselnik was and only came because their other friend couldn't make it. It was hilarious. Love this dude. ✌🏼

In 1962 the number one person on TV was Bishop Sheen. He was invited to give a talk at a prison The warden warned him before he took the stage “Listen, these are not house wives, these are hard core murders So don’t think you can just talk to them like regular folk.” The bishop thanked him and walked on stage and began. “There is only one difference between me and you, you got caught.” He got a massive standing ovation.

That guy has balls. He has felt the consequences before, and survived. I love his contempt for the joke police and the small mindset authoritarians. I wish he would would take on the Atlantic and Helen Lewis.

So you're telling me there are inmates in San Quentin that got to see Metallica (in 2003) and now Queens of the Stone age? Pretty sweet deal for a murderer if you ask me.

It's an old tradition. Johnny Cash played there twice in '58 and '69, Frank Sinatra in '65, Jerry Garcia in '68, and B.B. King in '90. Interestingly, when Cash played there in '58, a young Merle Haggard (20 at the time) was an inmate there serving two years for burglary. He credited Cash for inspiring him to launch a career in music after he got out. Haggard said: "He had the right attitude. He chewed gum, looked arrogant and flipped the bird to the guards. He did everything the prisoners wanted to do. He was a mean mother from the South who was there because he loved us. When he walked away, everyone in that place had become a Johnny Cash fan." Haggard went on to write 38 #1 hits on the country music charts.
