There's quite a difference. Conan actually took a two minute story and turned it into 9 (actually I think total run time was around 7 minutes) and Dave letterman's story was roughly 3 to 4 min. Both are hilarious, but they tell two different perspectives in a 9 min clip about the same thing.

Pretty well thought out joke, and Conan most likely knew it was. But maybe Conan has the bigger heart, since the horse is now getting massaged all the time, instead of being wheeled around as a joke.

Well I mean it seemed like Conan didn't know it was a joke at all; based on what he was saying to Stephen, it sounded like he thought of David Letterman as a role model. So I'm not entirely sure, but maybe he was more sentimental than Letterman anticipated.

I remember as a kid being able to watch David Letterman when I was sick with the chicken pox. The first Letterman episode I saw, he was in a suit of alka seltzer and he was dunked in a tank of water. I was 10 years old.

Conan tried to honor him by accepting his ridiculous gift. And I felt like he was joking about it in the Colbert's. But what Letterman did was very mean. May be it was the real Letterman. Honestly all of the talk show hosts including Letterman are so much behind Conan, his humor and effortlessness on the stage. No way to speak about them as equals

I think what makes Conan the greatest regardless of one's preferred talk show host or humour is that he treats his staff with respect and involves them. He doesn't see himself as "above them" despite being their boss.
