In the books, Dobby was more of a recurring character, so it felt less like they just brought him back to die. I liked that a lot more.

So true. I know there’s no way to include it all in such comparatively short productions, but damn, Dobby was such a big presence in the books. His death was infinitely more substantial.

I remember being bummed the movies changed Wormtail’s death from how it happened in the book. It was really messed up but in a compelling way. Basically when Voldemort was resurrected Wormtail sliced off his hand as part of the spell, and Voldemort conjured a magical silver hand for him, saying something about how it was a reflection of Wormtail’s loyalty. In Deathly Hallows when Harry and Ron are escaping from the Malloy house, Wormtail attacks them, and Harry shouts at Wormtail to try and distract him, calling him out for betraying his parents and the fact that Harry saved his life. This made Wormtail hesitate for a second, and then his magical hand began moving on its own. Wormtail tried to stop it, but he couldn’t, and the magical hand moved of its own accord, forcing Wormtail to *strangle himself to death*. Implied to be as a result of his split second feelings of guilt/momentarily not feeling loyal to Voldemort.

Eh, I don't buy for a second he ever felt guilt. Didn't like that ending.

One of the best conclusions to any movie series out there. They do the series justice with these last two films.

The lack of Dobby was always one of my biggest gripes with the movies. After he gets introduced he’s in every book other than Prisoner of Azkaban

The beginning of the end. RIP Michael Gambon. My favorite Dumbledore. I was surprised by the number of deaths in Deathly Hallows. It's like the series went into overkill after doing one major death per installment the last three times. Ron's behavior under the influence of the amulet reminds me of Frodo's when he was under the influence of The Ring. RIP Dobby.

What I truly HATE is Ron's reaction when Hermione is getting tortured by Bellatrix. In the books he almost lost it and became so furious. That's an appropriate reaction if someone you love gets tortured. In the movie he has no reaction whatsoever.

Glad you empathized with Ron this movie. I always thought people were too hard on him. Never liked how the films made his insecurities so glaring compared to the other characters.

also the minister is being played by Bill Nighy (you might know him as Davy Jones from Pirates of the caribbean, Luna's dad is also Spike from Notting Hill and Otto Hightower, and this guy 14:29 (Peter Mullan) is also Jacob from Ozark. The music is by Alexandre Desplat who also did The Grand Budapest Hotel. I guess you're a fan 🙂

I feel like the book series did a better job developing the relationship between Harry and Ron as well as exploring the Weasley inter-family dynamics. The film series kind of rushes past those moments or omits them entirely, so Ron comes across extremely unlikeable and his decisions seem like they come out of nowhere.

The place where the buried Dobbie in the movies is covered with gifts and socks in real life. Also Dobby is so much more involved in the books. He's heavily in the fourth book so all the readers were heartbroken and it didn't just feel like he was brought back to die.

I was at the midnight premiere of Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 when it was released (I saw the 3D version), there were some traumatic deaths there...and a few jumpscare moments. Also, Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley) is the real-life son of Brendan Gleeson (Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody), which adds gravity to when Bill declares "Mad-Eye's dead."

Dobby's death in the book is the saddest moment in the whole series, hands down, period. more than sirius, more than dumbledore, no contest for me. i had to stop reading for a while i was crying so much, it was very beautifully written by the one who must not me named. Dobby appears way more in the books even if its not in super relevant moments so thats why book readers tends to love him way more than the fans of only the movies.

So dobby is seen much more in the previous books so his death hits a lot harder in the books
@Lady_Yunalesca

Yeah it’s one of those things effected by not all the books being out yet. Dobby had several cameo appearances in the other books so when he died it hit harder. But when the movies were being made it wasn’t clear how much importance he would end up having until the last one.

The only missing part is that Peter Pettigrew helped Harry in the book then his own magical hand was choked him to death as it was a failsafe of his betrayal by Voldemort.

if you thought they were being hard on ron in the movie, its worse in the books. because its clearer that ron is the youngest of 6 sons (so 5 brothers), and all of his brothers are successful in some regard. and he doesnt even get to be the baby because ginny is younger AND the only girl. in addition to their family's poverty, he's clearly very self conscious about his place in his family and in the world in general. basically the only stuff he owns is handed down from one of his older brothers. even the wand he broke in the second movie wasnt originally his. in the first movie, remember harry saw his parents in that mirror that shows their deepest desires? ron saw himself as accomplished and admired. he's pretty insecure and i dont know if the movies showed that too well. charlie studies dragons and was captain of the quidditch team at school, bill is a curse breaker working in egypt (it isnt really explained much what this job entails, honestly seems kinda like wizard indiana jones), percy is an ambitious hall monitor lookinass nerd who gets government job and becomes estranged from the family because he sides with the government when they say harry is lying about voldemort returning (fuckin narc), fred and george are well-liked pranksters who open up a successful joke shop using the money harry won in the tournament from the 4th movie. i think ginny is supposed to be popular or something, idk. and here's ron: harry potter's sidekick. harry and hermione -- particularly harry, since they spend more time together -- should be aware of this but they act like his behavior is totally out of left field
