Toki is an arcade conversion where you play as a man who has been transformed into an ape (a different sort of ape that is) who for some reason has the ability to spit destructive energy balls now. Maybe he could do that before too? Anyway it's a competent platform game with responsive controls, but far too difficult for me like so many games of this sort.
"Overlooked Oldies" is a series of let's play videos of retro games that I somehow never played back in the day. Many of them will be suggestions made by subscribers.
Playlist of all the games in this series:

Intro music is from the classic "cracktro" by Unit A. The full version can be heard and seen here:

I'm a big fan of Toki. I especially love this soundtrack as it was ported to the Atari ST.

I love Toki. I think its a great platform game. I used to play this a lot on the arcade a lot along with my cousin who btw - believe it or not - could beat it with just 1 coin! ofc he fed the damn thing a fortune to get that good at it but still.. very impressive. this Amiga port is near perfect - I still remember that music from the arcades.

Yay! My request! :-) Toki's a real favorite of mine, it has beautiful graphics (even though the play area is shrunk mercilessly - probably as a compromise between game richness and system resources) and the music is excellent too - different tune in each level. It is true though that to make progress, you have to memorize *a lot* of traps and patterns. Thanks for the review!

***** you're welcome. Yeah I've never been good at the games that require memorisation of levels unfortunately.

The extra lifes are not meaningless. You are not supposed to die in the first level. :p When you get good enough to reach level two without dying and you then die, then you can continue from that level. I am surprised you haven't played this before, I always considered it a classic. The ST version is very good too. And yes it is based on an Arcade game which was terrific. Yeah that's it, blame the size of the screen lol :p As someone who sucks at platformers, I salute you :)

Awww man, some of my favourite tunes on the Amiga are in this game :) I used to get so stuck on this game.... even though it had Rick Dangerous-esque difficulty

I remember playing this in arcades, for some reason I really liked it. :P For the next first impressions vid, how about another amiga platformer: Mr Nutz. Never played it, but it looked pretty nice in a review I found in an old mag.

Toki is a favourite of mine, The Amiga and the Lynx versions are both pretty great. Definitely a game where you have to learn the levels; there are no real random elements. Using enemies to your advantage is the key!

The intro looks like an old open world(?) game for the commodore I think. Anyone know what game that is from?

+Hans Hylkema I made that in the style of the game Mercenary III for the Atari ST. One of the first games I played on my channel and where I got my avatar from: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h66mn7GKqbapnYk.html
