The patent issue really depends on different countries. If it has patent in united states, it doesn't mean it has also has patent for other countries. Unless the company has registered the patent for the whole world which costs at least $100k. We have customer did this, before he start manufacturing products. So you need to find out how to check patent information for your country. Google will be the best way. I can give you a very simple way to check if it has a patent. Once you see a certain product/design which is very hot selling on Amazon, but there's only 1 seller. It probably has patent.

Hello Jing, I ordered an item from China, It was sent through Fedex express door to door. I was charged a certain fee upon receiving the package. How do i prevent this from happening for my customers if i plan to dropship the same item?

I'm not sure what kind of charge you need to pay for this case. Is it because your place is too far away from main cities? Or it's the import duty? For import duty, you can just let the supplier choose " import duty paid by the sender," when he giving the package to FedEX.

junglescout. when using dropship tools, good products may have 50,000+, 100,000+ views. dropshipping search tools: ecomhunt, sellthetrend, nichescraper. establish manufacturers rough price: search product on alibaba, press the 'ready to ship' button. higher quantity orders, expect reduced unit price. no ready to ship price: be cautious. what is appropriate price range of import product: chinese wholesale price x 6 (or 7) = approximate western retail price. (low value products can have higher unit markup/margin) (large/wholesale market: products less than $10). (retail business: products >$20). (marketing can cost more than products). Shipping. Shipping costs can make product unprofitable. Couriers: DHL, Fedex. Air-shpping - $6-$7 per kilo. ˜ 7 days delivery time. lithium batteries, liquids, powders usually cannot be air-shipped. sea-shipping costs: ˜ $200 - $300 per cubic meter. ˜30 days delivery time. min shipping volume usually 2cbm. product must be customs compliant. (compliance certification). marketplace requirements. (eg amazon requirements) patents. cost breakdown analysis of product, to show if product is profitable to import. 1. cost for getting sample. (per supplier). 2. unit cost. 3. certification/qualification cost (if any). 4. shipping cost. 5. import tariff. 6. marketplace costs. (promotion) (amazon 15% - 20%) (+ fulfillment and storage fees.) (net profit 20-30% considered good business). (unique or patented products may have higher net profit).
