You should just make a 1.5 hour long loop of the video from 0:05 to 0:46. That whole process is just SOOO satisfying. I love the sound of the empty can being dropped in, getting crunched, then dropping into the trash - all as the motor drones in the background. EDIT: And you did it at the end, too!

I did not find it satisfying. I can easily crush cans that much with my hands, just as fast. It seems like it could crush the cans much smaller with that motor. Doesn't seem stressed at all. Though, the bottom board should be pocket holed for more strength. The way it is attached can't have much strength. Alternatively, metal could be wrapped around the outside and that metal screwed into the side boards.

Well done! I love your design and construction skills. The motor and power supply would be the expensive items. However, by constructing it oneself the total cost would be quite reasonable. For those who collect many cans, the space saving for carting to a recycling centre, and the consequent reduction in fuel costs, may make it cost effective. So ignore the negative comments. You have presented a machine designed to increase the number of aluminium cans which can fit in a given volume (e.g. a trailer or Ute) to cart to a recycling centre. Potential users can work out for themselves how cost effective it would be. Great idea 💡. I like it. 👍🏼
@izinyosib821
@izinyosib821 2 жыл бұрын
Some recycling centres actually advise against crushing the cans, as the equipment in the recycling centre has become more sophisticated over the years and un-crushed cans apparently have better workflow performance.

I live in Japan and I wish I knew where he gets his plywood. It's far better than what most DIY stores carry. Due to the "Wood Shock" they're currently experiencing (caused by Covid's effect on world shipping) the most I can find here is cheap lauan construction plywood. Our friend Koubou-san must have a huge stock of plywood left over from pre-Covid days. BTW, it is my understanding that most of Japan's 2x4s are pine or ash and come from Canada.
@acanadianwoodworker
@acanadianwoodworker 2 жыл бұрын
@@sincerelyyours7538 That's really interesting, I would have thought it more widely available. It looks like the same quality as 'Baltic Birch' type plywood, which is available in Canada but very expensive. Also interesting that Japan's 2x 4s come from Canada. We have really terrible quality 2 x4 s here - maybe the buyers for the Japanese stores are demanding higher quality and picking out the better lumber.

I admire his work but I don't think I would invest that much money and time to make a machine to break up cans. Many of those projects online make the builder look good, but has little use in real life. Most people are in the KZfaq to get view and make money, not to teach you anything useful.
@xConundrumx
@xConundrumx 2 жыл бұрын
@@Hour882Die No offense but ... I think you overestimate what YT gives people in terms of money at present (years ago maybe that was a different story but not anymore). There is a reason why many have turned to patreon and other sources of revenue. As for no use in real life... Many of the projects on this channel are nothing but useful, some more than others sure but this project would probably save you some cash in the long run if you got the hardware on the cheap. Over here where I live for instance prices for trashbags (these are special bags for which you pay extra and only these special bags will be picked up on trash day, no exceptions) are quite high. Saving space as a result does pay off.

Oh, we pretty much would NEVER press them here in Sweden! =) We pay a ~10 cent pawn fee when we purchase the drink. When we return the can to an official special receptacle (often found at grocery stores), we get the pawn fee back. As a kid, I collected cans to make money for candy and even to buy my own toys. And the ~92% return rate of the cans is good for both the environment and a good deal for the breweries.
