i feel like Danaher would have brought in an actual hook and described in elaborate and illustrative detail the mechanics of how boats and ships are tied down using an anchor or hook and from that pulling and controlling mechanism we would learn to insert our hooks with pin point accuracy and effectiveness and gain almost devastating control over our opponent. ...I would have enjoyed that. 😞

Ok, just a blue belt commenting here, but it seems a bit odd to me that the THIRD alternative is not addressed, i.e. the wide knee-base turtle with elbows on the inside. That is the strongest turtle position obviously since it combines the strong features of both the positions discussed here. Why is this not an option here?

Just from a wrestling point of view that isn't how we would turtle. While we are looking to stand up while in bottom position, that isn't how we would go about it and our body is kore protected than that. You can still hit an explosive stand up while fighting that hands, which is what we do, to address a person trying to choke. The arm draping over the shoulder also works nicely to chain into different escapes. Without a leg ride the arm over the shoulder looking for a choke isn't going to stop an escape. Looking to break someone down first and get your hooks in would be a better option to get to a rnc rather. To break someone down, though, is a skill more developed in wrestling which one would need to develop further to aid in maintaining the back

Why do you seat belt as oppose to go to the headlock!, or waist and head. Is it because it encourages the roll?
@brendon2462
@brendon2462 4 жыл бұрын
apekillssnake It might encourage them to roll. But the seat belt grip is a very good form of upper body control. If your partner rolls over their shoulder does a somersault. The seatbelt allows you to hang on jump over cover and follow them. Get underneath before their back touches the floor. Then you can get your hooks in and establish back control. If they take you down by grabbing the leg closest to their head. You can use a tight seat belt to pull them on top of you. Then get both hooks in and look for the rear choke. If they just stay there you can simply knock them over and get hooks in. Or trap their arm and look for the rear choke . So it does two things allows you to hang on follow or pull them. And it puts your arm that's over the shoulder. Always in a position for the rear choke. Go check out Marcello that's were i learned this stuff.

Priit "closed" turtle is susceptible to offbalancing because it is narrow and yes opening the knees to wide the base may lead to hook insertion plus it is passive. If you wanna stay for 10 min and loose by advantage or ref decision then yeah it is good turtle. For example judo guys like to lay face down and pull their gi over their head😂

@@putpixel4804 judging by your comment you havent fully researched Priit's work. He doesnt recommend staying in turtle and the way he turtles its very very hard to get hooks in and/or off-balance.
