Last really tough dog fight that I intervened was in my backyard 50 years ago. Another dog was in our yard and our GSD got mad. My GSD was foaming mad and winning the fight. I intervened with a steel garbage can top used as a shield. Once separated the other dog ran and my big pup bit the garbage can top. Then he was OK and it was over.

That was good move by you....... I threw a plastic chair at my 2 pitty girls tussle, they stopped but it wasn't a out and out killer fight like happens sometimes. I always carry a hand tazer now on walks but never needed it yet

Good advice to be prepared with a plan, technique and equipment. Question: as far as equipment preparation, in addition to the police leash, what about bite protection gloves? I've seen special protective gloves that extend up the forearm. Thoughts and recommendations?

I had a small pekinese/chihuhua mix for 2 years and then brought home an australian shepherd puppy. They got along great for 6 months and then one day something snapped and they went after each other. I was able to separate them but for the next 16 years I had to keep them separated all the time or they would suddenly explode into a fight. . You are right. Once they have started a fight, they will Always fight. Separately, they were fine and wonderful dogs, but together, it was an immediate fight.

Thanks I just got bitten by my pit bull mix when I tried to open her jaws after she protected herself against our own dog🤦‍♂️ wish I saw the pics only now! Wish I knew this before! I used water before but this time it happened on my bed😰 unfortunately she has a hip problem but I could not grab her hind legs 😓

What if one of the dogs is locked on another? Grabbing back legs will make it let go?
