Debut single, featuring singer Mark Greaney, drummer Fergal Matthews and girl bassist Hilary Woods.
This Irish band managed some entries into the UK charts (in the 20-something region) in the early 2000's. This appearance was for a re-entry of their first single, originally released in November 1999.
They split in June 2006.

I saw them open for the Stereophonics twice on the same tour. I bought their album. Met the singer after the show, seemed to be a decent dude. I was just putting together a new album list on my phone and remembered this band. I feel they should have been around longer. Great bass player too

These guys were so under-appreciated at the time, imo with one of the best vocalists ever. To capture all this angelic beauty and angst all in one is god given. I've been reverting back to old songs recently and recorded a few JJ72 covers(This, Improv and Brother Sleep), if you care to listen would love any feedback. Sorry for the plug, Peace.

the debut album from the year 2000, a force of nature to follow, it has completely changed my 18 year old life into a continuous 12 year long party of sex, drugs and my lo-fi band "fuckyourself" where the first one was already after one year tree slope, .... so sad

The vocals, maybe, not the instrumentals. The bass player was brought in because she looks good, she can't play a single chord. Mark Greaney did all the bass guitar stuff on a synthesiser.

Do think though that some of the comments about comparing them to Muse is a tad unfair, JJ72 only produced 2 albums before splitting up (though both faultless in my opinion), Muse have released countless more, so have had more scope to develop their music

@sambda I just meant in the sense that I can't hear any bass guitar at all. Having said that, I'm on my laptop and the speakers are atrocious so that could well be a contributing factor. :) I didn't mean anything bad by it anyway. Listened to them obsessively when I was 15! Thanks for uploading. x
@eekwibble
@eekwibble 2 жыл бұрын
Only 10 yrs late but, the reason you hear no bass is because the bass player was there for the aesthetics alone, she couldn't play a chord. One of the reasons they never went further.
@sixfaced

Dude's really got it in for Hilary 🙄😝 The bass in this vid is admittedly whitewashed by the oversaturated levels on Mark's guitar. But it's there. I mean you literally hear her opening G *note* at 0:35.

@DoctorMeatDic
@DoctorMeatDic 7 жыл бұрын
No, Muse built on a growing fanbase. JJ72 routinely insulted their fanbase by sub-par performances, taking the piss, etc. Their second album was awful, when it needed to improve on the first excellent album. They were lazy and self-indulgent and it blew up in their faces big time. A lesson to all other bands.
@velouris76
@velouris76 7 жыл бұрын
DoctorMeatDic I (sort of) agree with parts of what you've written, but...you think 'I to sky' was "awful"??!!...yes, not as good, overall, as the first album, I agree, but it was far from awful!! parts of it was arguably better than the first! Their work after 'i to sky' Yes, that was pretty much downhill...they did definitely decline from 2003 onwards...
@DoctorMeatDic
@DoctorMeatDic 7 жыл бұрын
They had great talent, great tunes and three great looking band members. They had EVERYTHING going for them. They fucked up because of Mark, he insulted their audience over and over.
@carloreilly80

Don't think they were as talented as muse, but that's not to put them down, they were an awesome band. I remember seeing them play the Red Box in Dublin and to this day it's still one of the best gigs I've been to, they were exceptional. Saw them a few years later, after Hilary had left, and they were a shadow of themselves. (nothing to do with Hilary's absence) While their first album was pure, most things after felt a little pretentious. Mark went on to form Concerto for Constantine, a band who IMO have some of the greatest songs I've heard, yet unfortunately they couldn't bring that to their live performances (i'm basing that on seeing them twice). Incredible talent, a shame they faded. I wonder what Mark is doing now.
