An example of how good this BMS really is. I installed 32 EVE 280 cells with no top balancing, hoping the JK BMS with active balancing would do it. The cells varied from 3.1 to 3.4 VDC. Three days later, the difference is 7 MV. Great product Andy, thanks for the recommendation.

Thank you for all the details explained. I am planning set my own DIY lifepo4 battery pack and was looking for a BMS brand that can trust. JK is a reputed brand in Sri Lanka as well. And you explaining all the features one by one was amazingly helpful. It might take few months for the batteries to ship but now I know where to start. As I read in comments Top balancing is no longer an essential task as the BMS does take care of it. So thanks for the great information. Take Care ❤

Hi Andy, in my opinion the Con.Wire Res. ist the resistance of your cell wiring. The BMS is able to calculate the "real" voltage of the battery because there is a voltage drop that becomes more important on higher currents e.g. 50A and higher. The voltage drop may be some mV but it is important, because the polarity will change while charging or discharging. so it must be added or subtracted from the cell voltage! greetings from Germany!!
@bjorn_moren
@bjorn_moren 9 ай бұрын
The cell wiring (bus bars) is in the order of 1 mOhm. It is probably even less than the internal resistance of the cell, which is around 0.25 mOhm. The Con Wire Res values on the screen look like around 150 mOhm, so they can't be the bus bars, they must be the balancing wires.

Nice and informative video. Thank you very much. Connection wire resistance may be important when the balance happens. Balance current goes through those small wires and there will be a voltage drop when ~2 amps goes through them. And if we set up a correct resistance of them, then BMS can calulate the individual battery voltage by adding them to the messuring voltage of a cell.

Hi Andy, Thanks for your very informative videos and reviews. I did a conversion from lead acid to 16 x EVE 304Ah cells in my G-Wiz EV using the JKBMS 20S - I did this about a year ago, and watched your videos to help me decide which kit to buy. Since winter time, I'm having issues with some of my cells, probably due to stress and low temperatures affecting performance. The "SOC" on the display is basically correct, but on my vehicle when I go below 40% soc, one of the cells starts to underperform, usually when the heater is on, I'm accellerating hard and going uphill... momentarily dropping below the cut-off voltage of 2.45 and the cut-off engages, stopping the car, a few seconds later, the voltage increases and it works again, I obviously turn off the heating and acellerate more gently. The other cells are obviously all ok, being over 3v. I was wondering if its possible to change the "SOC" so 0% is at the real level of 40% where my cell starts to play up. How could I do this? perhaps change the cell capacity value lower? I've ordered a replacement cell ... but I'm also mulling over adding another cell so its 17 in series to help.

Great videos! I am planning a 5x16s battery back for my house and I did not see any video about using the JKs with multiple packs in parallel. Do the BMSs have a master-slave functionality or must each be configured separately? And also.. how well does the JK speak to the inverter (I have a 3p Deye 12k) and even more so, when you have multiple JKs in your big battery storage unit? I also see, SEPLOS/Maison offer they battery DIY boxes without a BMS - would JK be a good subsitute and would it "fit"?

Amazing video Andy, finally I have got my battery ready to calibrate the BMS, all due to your instructions. I got a JK BMS for 24v which was the only one at the time, I did want 12v, but I have used the buck converter to get the 24v. Did the 7v short trick (thank you) to get it started. Using the software on my iPhone on the status screen, I can only see half the screen, the other half disappears under the settings screen, might be due to the version of iPhone. The only other thing is that it will not let me change the Charge UTP setting and it defaults to -20 degrees! It will never get that cold here in WA but it does get down to freezing especially outside and early morning. I can change most settings which I did not think I would be able to on the iPhone, I thought I had to pay for that. Oh well am now a little bit further down the road on the journey. Thanks so much for all your nerdyness😎

Hi Andy, we're you able to compare the Remain Capacity display of the JK BMS with the display from the Victron Smart Shunt? I'd like to know if there's a significant difference between the two.

Thanks! Won't it make a harm to a hybrid inverter powering the load, if a BMS abruptly turns off a battery due to undervoltage or overcurrent protection?

I cut the sense wires to different lengths, to neaten up the mess on top of my battery and of course it does show differentiated resistance values on the status tab. There was a bit of a debate on the forum regarding the wisdom of cutting the sense wires of BMS's, however it seems to be functioning perfectly. (WHEW! this first time builder thought id made a mistake...) However, the question of the settable resistance values on the settings tab is one i'd sure like to have answered... thanks Andy!

Thanks Kelly, perfectly fine to shorten or extend the balance cables. There is no downside to that. The BMS is either measuring cell voltage or balancing but never at the same time, so cable length is not an issue.

@@OffGridGarageAustralia So, just to be clear, i cut the sense cables to various lengths. Individual wires are NOT equal lengths. Conversation on the forum regarding the wisdom of doing that revolved around other brand BMS's and group thought it a no no... Andy, your work has helped me tremendously and i thank you.

Good evening. I'm following your channel from the start. I recently started to build my own system with mostly Victron stuff. And went with JK BMS. But i have a weird issue. Even when i turn off discharge on Bms it still lets around 50W over because my Multiplus still can run on idle. If i raise usage to around 100W turns off as it should. Can you test for me if i have faulty unit. Or this is how this bms works. Thanks

Hi, do you know if the JK BMS has some kind of pre-charging when activating the Charge/Discharge FETs, or do you need a separate precharge resistor? Thanks!

Can you please clarify how the JK BMS behaves if the low voltage shut down is reached? Does the BMS turning itself off prevent recharging from the solar array or if the solar array is sending current to the battery will the BMS accept the charge and turn back on with no intervention.

Hi Guy.. Question.. do you know if there's any Firmware updates on these units ? Also any bug fixes on readings being so jumpy on the newer units, and is there a way to make the BT reception better ? The newer BT units work better. I have the B2A24s200A versions.. I have 6 of these.. and all are in 14s set up. they been working trouble free.. But Slight issues..I have tried to talk to the reps , but they weren't very helpful..

I have 16 EVE cells with a JK-B2A24S15P. The batteries and inverter are in my shop which is too far away from my house to monitor with bluetooth. I have a network connected laptop in the shop that I can take over from my house. I can view the monitor programs for my MPP Solar LVX6048 inverter and my Victron Shunt this way but I can't find a way to monitor the JK BMS on the laptop. Is there any way to monitor the JK BMS on the laptop so I can also see that from the house?

Another very useful video - Many thanks Andy! I bought one of these and finally had my battery built and connected up. I started the BMS and all worked well. About an hour later the power cut, connecting to the BMS with my phone, I could see it had disconnected the power due to low cell voltage - I planned to wait until the next day for the sun to charge the battery again. Half an hour later the power came on and the BMS was showing 'Discharging MOS not normal' blinking in yellow - since then the BMS reads very differently to the Victron inverter/MPPTs in my system and even if I click to disconnect in the app of the BMS, the BMS beeps but nothing happens. . . I am wondering whether when the BMS reconnected my system the surge of current re charging the capacitors in the inverter (10kW Quattro) have killed the discharge MOSs . . . I have contacted the seller who kindly just sent me links to the app and instructions. . . 🙃 Any thoughts as to whether I can do a reset on it or other ways I can test it before I have to start crying and buy another one are greatly appreciated 👍🏼

I just bought what is supposed to be the 4-8S JK-B2A8S20P, the issue is that it won't start on a 4S setup. If I connect 24V to the B+, I get it to start and I can connect to it. But trying on the 4S setup doesn't work. Hardware Version: V9.X Software Version: V9.01M3 Note: I bought this one second hand, used once in 8S configuration. Any tips on this or is this as I fear, the early version that doesn't support 4S setup?

Hi Andy! I thank you for your time and for the immense value of your sharing of knowledge and passion. I'm having problems activating the discharge with a voltronic inverter (pip max 8kw), when I activate it, the short circuit protection without sparks immediately starts without any visible problem, the wiring has been checked and rechecked a thousand times, in some forum they told me of precharge problems. The discharge is activated regularly if I disconnect the positive pole with the circuit breaker, so the problem is precisely the inverter, which parameters do you recommend me to change (scp delay?)

Hi Ross Doc, there will be too much inrush current. I had a similar problem. When switching on three mppt charge controllers, the SCP always came. I doubled the SCP time. From 1500 to 3000. Now it works for me.

You can use the 8s-24s BMS for your 20s battery and follow the instructions on their website on AliExpress. Very easy to setup as you just leave the unused cells disconnected. Link is here... off-grid-garage.com/battery-management-systems-bms/

Always great info Andy, sometimes I watch ur vids a few times over. A question, I have 2 x JK 24v 200A BMS’s, can I use them in series for a 48v system? I don’t know if the MOSFET’s are rated for this voltage. Q2. My newish 24v JK wont connect to BT app & makes a 3 short beeps then 1 long beep, it took a bit to initially connect when I first switched it on a week or so ago, it worked fine mostly for a few days and then started this beeping when I tried to connect the app to it.

Thanks Andy for the detailed explanation of the settings in the JK. I am considering getting one for one particular reason. That is the heating function. I wonder if you could do a run through on the heating function. I know it doesn't apply in "sunny Australia" but Ireland can get quite cold in the winter. TIA Larry

Hi! Is there a way how the BMS could measure the real capacity of the battery? I used deep discharged 18650 cells, stored at zero voltage all the thousand cells came back to 3.6V than made them paralel and built big 7S120P pack and put a JK BMS on it. Not sure how many Ah left in the cells, would be nice if BMS could measure. Rated is 2.75Ah each cell so I guess 2Ah per cell left in best case but not sure. So entered 240Ah for the settings....
