Being a beginning guitar player I ran across you on KZfaq, sure a lot of the videos were old but after looking it over the information it is not only fresh but more valuable then you'd realize at first glance. After buying the "Easy Guitar Chord & Lead Tricks" and having the physical book in hand and re-watching the accompanying videos with it, eventually it began to sink in. Being 72 years of age has it's challenges both physical and mental, there must be millions out there that share the same problem. However, after struggling for a good while(well over a year) I am now watching your videos on your channel and my confidence is overwhelming. I have traveled the world many times and done things most people could only dream of but, learning to play a guitar was one of the biggest challenges for me. It was Song Bike with Jonathan Kehew's videos that opened the door for me and I am certain it will for many who try. The Secret is: if you don't get it? Do it again, and again, and again until it comes, eventually it will. Thank You, Jonathan

Thanks Johnathan for your Guitar Instructional videos. I had almost lost hope at learning this instrument again. I used to play Guitar in church when I was in High School. A few of us had been taught by an older lady from another church in her home. She one told me in front of the entire class that I was not cut out to be a good Lead Guitarist BUT I would make a Great Rhythm Guitarist. At the time I wasn't quite sure how to take that comment. A few years later while I was riding my bicycle home from work, a drunk motorcyclist crossed over the center line and head me head on. I ended up with a crushed right wrist. So of course I had to quit playing guitar for awhile. And even when the wrist got better, I just never got back into it. Although I never got rid of THAT guitar. I still have her with me 46 years later. Recently my wife and myself moved from Denver, Colorado (where Guitar Teachers are Plentiful) to a town of 7,000 in Iowa and not a Guitar Instructor to be found. So I was forced to go to the Web to learn. Now that we have moved I am now really motivated to get back intro playing Guitar. So much so that I had to hang my old time friend on the wall because she needed too much work on her and they could not guarantee the sound. So I bought a used Washburn Acoustic / Electric Guitar. This video here of yours I discovered is amazing and at the right pace. However I do have a question for you and see if you have any creative ideas on how to solve my problem. You see not only am OLD and No Physical guitar Instructor, I am also legally blind. Which means I have 20/ 2100 corrected so I must sit really close to the Computer to read or see something. So that is where my problem lies, if I am sitting that close to the screen, I can not be holding my guitar in front of me and playing along with you. So any ideas would be appreciated. For anyone reading this and wondering if my vision problem will hinder me from playing guitar, NOPE. I have had this problem all my life and I player guitar once and I will be playing it again. Thanks for you time.

He sketches ideas that ive known so long i dont know how i learned them reminding me how i got started and what my bad habits have become. He teaches me how i should teach. Sometimes i learn something about the guitar on here, but really its what he teaches me about so many much more subtle things. This is a true master of instruction. Before i tackle a "heavy" music lesson i like to watch him teach some old basic stuff my dad taught me and remember how it all builds from very simple things. I love showing my girlfriend and being like "ok, remember what i showed you, well this is what i meant to say."

Jonathan I just started playing and have spent so much time looking for teaching videos. Although I only have seen the one on the blues shuffle it was explained and demonstrated in a way that a beginner can actually understand and actually learn. It’s almost like a lot of other videos are instructors wanting to show you how well they play. They go so fast you end up more frustrated and feeling worse about not being able to understand or come close to actually executing what they are trying to teach you. Good job and please keep it up.

At the age of 52 (2019) I picked the guitar up for the first time and decided to have a go, still struggling a year down the line lol. Great lesson, hopefully the little trick with the thumb will help me reach those third and fourth frets. I can't put the damn thing down, despite the fact I'm struggling so much with it. Subscribed

John, you were born to teach. I gave my son my old Takamine (like he needed another guitar) he's pro musician. I gave it to him because I stopped playing 25 years ago. A good friend gave me a nice acoustic, so here I am again. Relearning some things I had forgotten. Your lessons are outstanding. I use your lessons and another really good teacher. Keep it up. Thank you for this lesson. I started learning guitar about a year ago @ 54 years old, and I'm still in book one. Due to work hours its hard to be consistent. This lesson is a step forward and I will be seeking other videos to help me get better. I finally feel like i'm playing something. I'm working with a Lotus Strat, electric. This pattern sounds cool. I will be drilling it over & over with your video, along with the other video you did with a friend doing scales up and down the neck.

Hi Jonathan, I'm a latecomer to the guitar and find your style of teaching very useful, I've watched quite a few of your videos, its just a pity most of them are quite old and not HD quality but a least you do show a close up of your finger positions on the fret, which is essential for someone just starting off.
