I have made hundreds of videos.... But i have yet to made a video on how to install a full lift kit!!
Want to save some money and install your own lift kit? Maybe you want to learn a little more about how your suspension works and what each component actually does.
In this video we install a Clayton Offroad 3.5" Overland Plus suspension kit.
I am using my 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, however this install is practically the same for any solid axle jeep with coil springs (even with non Jeeps).
A Jeep Wrangler will have practically the exact same steps. I realized the other day, that i had never made a lift kit install video (Mostly due to the fact that i started my KZfaq channel very late into my offroading hobby).
I hope this video can help you guys out, whether you are new to Jeeps, or maybe you want to see some tips and tricks. And for those of you looking to install a lift kit on a Jeep Gladiator then this will be pretty much step by step.
Here is the lift kit i am installing in this video.
www.claytonoffroad.com/produc...
Here is a video of this lift kit in action:
• Trail Testing Our New ...
Lets get back to the basics....
How do you know when you need a full suspension lift kit?
I will try to make this simple, if your going over 2.5" of lift then i suggest a full lift kit that has the following items;
Coil Springs- The things that actually lift your Jeep!
Control Arms- These are what connect your axle to the frame, the front arms control positioning as well as caster and pinion angle alignment. The rear control axle positioning and pinion angle.
Trackbars- These located your axle from side to side. When lifting your jeep, the axles will actually shift over to one side, requiring an adjustable trackbar to re-center them.
Bumpstops- To limit uptravel for larger tire size increase.
Shocks- In this case, the clayton kit lets us choose our own shocks. I chose the Fox Performance shocks that are actually labeled for 4-6" lifts.. This allowed me to gain some extra down travel in the shock. Its important to look at the extended and collapsed length of shocks and verify that it will work with your setup.
Sway Bar Links- Lifting the jeep means we need longer sway bar links to keep them parallel.
All of these adjustable components allow us to fine tune our rig, and really make it drive well. The adjustability allows us to dial in the suspension and negate the side affects of a lifted ride height.
I am extremely happy with this lift kit so far, it rides amazing on the road, and handles perfectly offroad. Make sure your subscribed to the channel to see more videos!!
Thank you for watching, and please let me know if you have any questions.
Like always, give the video a thumbs up, subscribe to the channel, and leave a comment!!
Thanks,
Ben

I really like how you've gone through different manufacturers. You're not doing apples to apples comparisons since the kits themselves are different (spacer vs leveling vs suspension system) but you get a good feel for the quality and care that the manufacturers put out. The variety gives us a good breadth of knowledge on how to build our new Gladiator.

Long time listener, first time caller. I’ve been watching your videos on FB for a while, but I finally pulled the trigger and subscribed on KZfaq. It’s not something I normally do, but I had to jump on and tell you how much I’ve enjoyed keeping up with your Gladiator build. I’m a long ways behind, but I’m loving mine, and I can’t wait to get my lift on this summer. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to more videos.

Really appreciate the video. I'm giving myself a good bit of time to collect all the equipment needed and to learn as much as I can before I give it a go, but I'm hoping by this time next year (Aug 2021) I'll be installing a 3.5" on my 2017 JK. This is my first Jeep, I finally...finalllly got one, and I'm so stoked to become more than an owner. This will be the biggest project I've ever done. Really enjoy your channel. Thanks for sharing!

I have found that pushing up slightly on the opposite knuckle with the floor jack caused the side you are working to droop further, allowing more room to sneak the spring in. At least this is what worked on my Ram which has the same 5 link set up. Wish I knew this trick when I did my TJ years ago.

You make it look so easy! I'm so obsessed with the Core Doors on the JK in the background that it's distracting me from focusing on the task at hand. Wish Bestop would come out with them for the JL & JT. Are they paintable? Thinking they'd look way better color matched but haven't seen anyone with them painted yet.

Love your channel. Very helpful tips. Quick question for a novice here: How do you determine right torque specs with impact wrenches and driver's? For example, lug nuts need to be torqued to 130ft-lbs so I can do it with manual wrench but I see you use impact wrenches for all your upgrades including this lift.
