The second I saw 2002 A's preceded by Yankees, I know who it was. "Naw, Dave, I'm not paying you $7 million. The Yankees are paying half your salary. That's what they think of you. They're paying $3.5 million to have you play against them."

@@mc76 Yeah, exactly... when people starting saying stuff like "Moneyball A's," it became a when not an if that they'd get it. For all of the aging stars who came to Oakland for one year, he was the one shown in the movie - and memorably so. In fact, it's probably the biggest reason that was marked as Easy. Beyond that, he's not an immediate pull for fans their age.
@snerdterguson
@snerdterguson Жыл бұрын
Might just depend on who you're a fan of and age. I would think every Yankee fan who was old enough in 2000 would instantly guess Justice. His numbers that year were so bonkers. Plus there's the giveaways of several seasons in Atlanta followed by Cleveland. This was the first time I ever got the easy round. Usually I get one or both the medium and hard rounds. But never the easy for whatever reason.

I’ll forever remember Orlando Cabrera because I was at work and a customer excitedly tells me “The White Sox got Cabrera!” Miguel Cabrera was, I think, a free agent at the time and I was shocked the White Sox would ever pony up the cash to sign him. I turned on the radio and they were talking about him playing shortstop and I knew the truth.

Idea for a new game: StanceGuess. Guess who the silhouette of a batting stance is. If you can do a video, maybe their whole swing. Also guess the pitcher by their pitching mechanics silhouette. StanceCharades could also be fun.
@6thwilbury2331
@6thwilbury2331 Жыл бұрын
This is brilliant. Of course, you'd probably need to stick to people who are quite distinct. It doesn't have to be unique like Hideo Nomo for pitching or Rod Carew for batting, although those could be the Easy category. And yeah, it has to be stance as opposed to swing. Once people start swinging, the mechanics look similar even if the stances are distinctive (e.g. Bryce Harper vs. Rafael Devers). They could also troll the panel one time by showing three different stances, asking for guesses, only to reveal that it's Carl Yastrzemski each time.

I guess they had to be on the World Series roster to count as a World Series winner? First one I thought of was Terrence Gore but although he was a Dodger in 2020 he wasn’t on the WS roster. But was on the 2021 Braves WS roster. He is a fun immaculate grid guess for when you need a Braves player who also played for either the Dodgers, Royals, Mets, or Cubs. Because he only appeared in one game for the Braves and it was in the postseason as a pinch runner and he didn’t even score.

So when I saw the first one and thought 'That's Dave Justice' and then watched a bunch of much more knowledgeable people stumble around it, I was confused. I do wonder how they'd do with elite/famous players from the 70s to 90s. Like, Dave Winfield, Orel Herschizer, Kirk Gibson, Wade Boggs, Rod Carew, etc. Or even just flat out Hall of Famers. See how bad the recency bias is.
