That was a handy tip I wasn't aware of, the types of loads for specific types of car etc. I did this before my left shoulder surgery, and it was scary to see the car number count come up to see how many one owns, even how many locomotives one has... I think I might only be using JMRI for my operations only, to make up trains, as I kept having issues with the automation side of things. One issue I been having when the train build order is made, I keep getting a flat car to be added to a passenger train, and going to the platform, and I can't figure out why.

Have to watch the AAR Jason, LO and HM can be used for covered hoppers. I believe the LO is for the more "modern" cars. I used HM for the 30 Ton hoppers and LO for my 70 Ton hoppers. I believe my cars actually have HM and LO called out

Thanks and glad it was helpful. The car code abbv. or AAR Codes, I had to do a google search. Depending on your era depends on what they would of been. This is what I used to determine mine: www.opsig.org/files/resources/AARFreightCarCodes.pdf

Thanks for doing this Jason. Everyone that uses JMRI just talks about it like everyone has it and knows how to use it. I have always thought that it was just too confusing and was afraid to try it but with these videos you broke it down enough that I feel I could try it. If you get the opportunity, can you do a tutorial on how to put your track plan or layout into JMRI with blocks and signals so JMRI will show where the locos and cars are on the layout as the train goes around the layout?

JMRI doesn't do that, not to say it couldn't be suggested in the future.

When adding loads, is it for that one specific car, or are you adding loads and they will apply to any of those car types? For example, if I make an XM type car that has a load of toothpicks, will all XM cars have the load toothpicks or will I have to add loads to each XM separately?

It is per car type so a XM (boxcar) that is GN could be carrying toothpicks in. Then another XM that is NYC could be carrying toothpicks out. When you start doing custom schedules is when you start to limit which railroads carry the toothpicks and which ones doesn't.

Tell me the importance of the ‘new date’?

That is when the car would of been built, so if you're modeling let's say 1976, you wouldn't want a car with a build/new date of 1980 on your railroad. If you're not modeling after a specific era, then the build/new date doesn't matter.
