I've loved this idea for a cage setup for a long time. I've recently discovered they work great for quail too! Just put a smaller gauge wire mesh on the bottom so they can walk better and I have a nice setup for them now too.

What a great idea. I went to the store today to try my hand at building your rabbit hutch. Took me only 90 minutes to finish it, including redoing a wall and top twice. Used hog clips on the ceiling for the hinge. Worked great. Only change I would make is to make the width 36" using one 20" and one 16" instead of 40". Just because I can't quite reach the far wall at 40" but I can at 36"

I love these cages! Best cages I've ever had. Very clean looking and the rabbits have plenty of room. The seem to like them too! When I bought all the shelving and tools my boyfriend just watched. Love your video and bought the shelving. I'm never in a hurry so it took me a few months to put it all together, a little at a time. My husband had no clue what I was doing and refused to help. Till I was almost done. LOL Once I had the bottom and all four sides done then started putting in the dividers I got help from him. They came out fantastic and my bunnies have a lot more room. I bought enough extra that my husband went ahead and put together another 6ft one all by himself before I woke up for breakfast the next morning. I watched your video several times in my several months of building my cages. He on the other hand never watched anything. As a result his are not as perfect as I was trying to do. LOL But he did a great job and as you said perfection isn't necessary. He then built beautiful wooden houses for each bunny. Thank you! It was a lot of fun you gave us doing something together. Bless you!

I love this idea. I moved from our 4 acre homestead a few years ago to a 1/3 acre suburban lot. (very sad, I know) After a couple of years of doing very little, we finally decided to set up a new, suburban homestead (and our first KZfaq channel). For the time being I am using some welded wire cages that belong to my parents, with the intention of building my own before long, but after seeing these wire shelf cages, this is definitely my goal. Nicely done! Great idea and even better execution. I had almost two dozen chicken back on the old homestead and kept one large bunny for the hell of it, but I'm just starting to realize many other ways they would be beneficial to my garden since I've read that their pellets can be put directly onto the soil to feed the microbial life without worry of "burning" the crops due to high nitrogen levels like fresh chicken manure. I'll be watching your channel closely! Good luck this year!

One suggestion! Get Lowes to cut them before you take them home ;) Unless you just like cutting them yourself lol Get them to cut 3 of the 12ft'ers in half (6ft) That will give you 2 for the top, 2 for the bottom and 1 for front and 1 for back, Then have them cut another one into 3 40in sections (each side needs 1 40in section) You'll have 1 extra 40in piece (for a future cage?) and 1 24in scrap piece (use it in your barn/home/or whatever). If you are low on money, buy 1 at a time, just have them cut at the store as you buy them. You'll need to buy 4 total for 1 cage (but remember, you'll have an extra 40in piece each time you build a cage so on your 3rd cage, you'll only need to buy the 3 cut in half cause you'll already have the side pieces) I couldnt find any political signs to use as dividers so I just used hardware cloth to divide the cage. (It was the cheapest option I could think of at the time) I've made 2 of these and now have enough for a 3rd (just havent made it yet) These are definitely wonderful cages!

@rachelcompton4625 2 жыл бұрын
@@ReasieRoo You could probably make them a bit smaller to get a 3rd hutch out of this? I'm not sure, it's been a few years since we did this (and no longer have rabbits) The rabbits had plenty of room in the way we built them but I bet taking off a few inches wouldnt bother them much if it meant you could get another cage out of it?
