Alexandra used Nikolai to produce films of him which were done by the TV production company which introduced her second husband into their home (the father owned the production company). Margrethe made several mistakes in dealing with Alexandra at the time of the divorce imo: 1. She gave the pearl drop tiara to Alexandra so it is in effect lost to the main line, it is a beautiful tiara and had Alexandra been decent she should have returned it to the Queen, 2. The Queen/Alexandra's lawyers negotiated a generous government salary for life for Alexandra which is separate to royal funding of the rest of the family. The Queen gave Alexandra a title for the sake of the children in my opinion, and in recognition of her 10 years of "royal service" such as it was. As to Joachim's divorce not affecting the monarchy, I disagree. They kept it quiet up to the marriage of Frederik and Mary so as not to stain the celebrations and Joachin did take a hit to his popularity. For my taste I've always found Alexandra rather fake and unappealing. Joachim and Marie participate in all official royal family events and both have numerous patronages. Just like all royal families they divide the work up and the less significant patronages are dealt out to the junior members of the family. Although, Marie does have several significant patronages from Henrik, even before his death, such as UNESCO. So, you can see that although not the main line Joachim and his family still have official and also informal family roles significant to the royal family in general. All his children have the same titles as Frederick's children so are princes/princess and also counts/countess of Monpezat. Joachim is an admitted francophile, which Frederik isn't and he and Marie and their children have returned to France where Joachim is engaged in some sort of unspecified military training and their children are beginning school to learn French so they will grow up to be bilingual, or trilingual or more, since Marie has French Spanish and Danish while Joachim has Danish, French and English.
