She was so photogenic, even in her older age. Those cheekbones were made for film! Wow!

My great grandmother worked at the MGM payroll office. She used to tell stories about the stars. All of stars used to have to pick up their checks at the office and sign for them. The only stars who had their checks taken to them or taken to their homes were Garbo and Crawford.

This is a fantastic interview with one of the Greats of the movie industry. I don't know how people can listen to Joan here and say she is not a nice person. I hear a genuine, knowledgeable, straight-forward woman. And she donated all of the films she owned, that's our Joan!

I’m not saying she wasn’t nice and I’m not saying any of the horrible things people have said about her are true, but you can’t tell if someone is truly a kind person based on celebrity interviews with the press. She was an actress and a movie star. Presenting a pleasant and cordial disposition to the press and public was part of the job, especially in the era she came up in. Theoretically speaking, she could have gone home from this interview and beat her dog for all we know.

Crawford's performance in Rain has since been reevaluated. In Dancing Lady she more than holds her own with Astaire, in his first screen appearance.

The title of the video is wrong. The interview opens with welcome to Washington because she was in town for an AFI event

Joan, was a unique person. I can't speak on her children or family life. I recall getting the call from NYC in 1977, she had passed. Mr. Hahn, Retired Los Angeles California

I don’t know if I have seen her in a film but she is very beautiful and charming. I did see Mommy Dearest and find it hard to believe the adopted child. She had a hard face when interviewed and I just didn’t like her. People should not air their dirty laundry in public even if some unpleasant things happen. Especially if the person is dead and can’t defend themselves.

Toxic Tina has made a 40 year career slagging her mother; every edition printed comes with freshly squeezed b.s. in order to make her mother a monster. Toxic Tina states she hated her mother but she had NO problem making money off the Crawford name and legacy. The fact that she waited until her mother was dead to pull this speaks volumes. MANY, including the housekeeper and the assistant have disputed her claims. Was she abused? Yes.. but to the extent she spewed? No. Many directors have stated that Toxic Tina was HORRIBLE to work with.. entitled, privileged and would not take any direction at all. She was JEALOUS of her mother's legacy and career (but ignored the hard work it took her to get her there). If she wasn't a Crawford, no one would have cared.

I loved how she starred in Mildred Pierce she was a real actress NOT like the ones we have nowadays. I don't know whether the book Christina wrote is true, I wonder whether she portrayed her Mother the way she did in her book was for the reason Joan had excluded her and her brother from her Will. At the same time I wonder what really happened for a Mother to exclude them in her Will. I guess the truth will never be revealed.

There’s a documentary on KZfaq with many witnesses all in agreement Christina was green with envy to whom adopted her. Joan Crawford cared too much for her stardom to lose her self control.

You picked up on that. I remember right near the beginning of "Mildred Pierce" she said "Fawty" when giving her address. She certainly didn't learn that in Texas.

I believe, Christina's, story about her mother. Just because, Joan, was a star, doesn't mean, she wasn't abusive. I believe, Christina, was just being honest. Christina, tried, to tell her side of the story. Of course, everyone, is not going to believe her.

I think Christina exaggerated and was a yellow coward to get that book published only after her mother passed. She also was greedy and sued to get part of Joan's estate even after she was disinherited.

@@lemonhead162 , she also disputed the portion of money that Joan left to various charities. Money that would've been life-changing to the recipients and Christina did her level best to try and steal it from them. A greedy, grasping, lying guttersnipe!

Christina was a spoiled brat and she was not grateful for anything. She even gave her beautiful clothes away when she went to boarding school, to gain friends , I guess. She was not the prettiest girl and she used her mothers name often to get attention. Her younger sisters (The twins) denied everything she said. They had a wonderful childhood and a great education, and Cindy and Cathy were thankful. I don’t doubt that Joan was strict, she was a very orderly women. I believe when Christina dabbled in acting, she obviously wasn’t very good. Also, she was awful to have on the set ( I learned through interviews online) I believe when Joan adopted the twins, that created competition. She was left out of the will, probably because she felt entitled. It was vindictive of her to write a book of which her sisters denied everything. The stories don’t match. I think Christina is a very disturbed person.
