I always find it interesting that people are so surprised that some writers are not particularly articulate when they speak, because I assume they write for that very reason. They write because that's how they express themselves. That's why I write, anyway.

This is the best interview with Didion I’ve seen. She is a beautiful woman is every way.

So was it 1975, my English 101 class. The Norton anthology with her essay on going home. It was a breakthrough for me, helped me get into more serious lit. Great memories, had one of those literary crushes on her, a sort of parody of infatuation. 12/23/2021, the day I traded my shirt for a black one when I heard on the evening news. She loved the water management system, could talk at length about draining Quail lake. And John Wayne, the sort of person I refuse to despise. Now sailing into the light, God speed to her in eternity.

Here because comments on news sites from.her readers upon hearing the news of her death piqued my interest in her. This interview drew me in even further. The interviewer , I had not known previously either, was really drawing her out and his interest and open delight at talking with her and her work was really wonderful to see. It was a reflection of how great they both were. My first thoughts when hearing her respond to wuestions was ' she is a renowned writer, she can hardly put a sentence together! But I got past that and just listened , but when she said she was not articulate, even though Charlie said he disagreed I liked her more. Her honesty and self awareness and factuality about herself was refreshing. Okay, ...gonna get me some reading material and do some book reading...

Have you read her work? She had some extraordinary insights, a true wit. I am not familiar with this particular interviewer 'Charlie ' but his 90s , stay in control journalistic style curtails her and stymies her articulation .

@@Tinyflydeposit I hadn't at the time.of commenting read her books and I'm ashamed and shocked that 10 months have passed and i still havn't despite my intentions. This is my reminder, I'll put some on my Christmas list! TY .Have you a particular recommendation for a novice?

@@Marie.b didn't mean to shock and shame you. It isn't light reading, but Slouching Toward Bethlehem is an amazing insight into 60s counter culture. I was a teenager in the 60s and read it in my 30s it made sense of my entire life to me. Year of Magical Thinking is an exploration of greif without the comforts of faith. Sound too heavy? Her style is light elegant and very readable. If I were American I would be fiercely proud of her. Pretty sure you can listen to edited versions of her work on KZfaq. Pleasure talking to you.

I hate the way he interviews. Rude choppy. He doesn't allow a flow HE is in control. It isn't an exchange, more like he picks her up and shakes out information.

He’s awfully rude and he’s got a genius in front of him. People want to hear what she says, not him.

Oh how I miss Charlie Rose. He always knew to ask the questions viewers would be apt to ask if we had the opportunity to meet those who have sat at the big round table. Does anyone else wonder why The Me Too-ers have been so silent? Have they run out of men they can eviscerate?

Well now there's you~ Charlie Rose is a sexual predator. More than 25 women had credible CREDIBLE reports of his sexual harassment, groping, naked penis flapping, and general predatory perversion.
