Jeanne D'Arc - The Maid Of Orléans: Jeanne D'arc, known as "La Pucelle" was born around 1412 in Domrémy, and died at the stake on 30 May 1431 in Rouen. She was a heroine of French history, a war leader and a saint of the Catholic Church, posthumously nicknamed "La Pucelle d'Orléans".
At the beginning of the 15th century, the young girl from a peasant background claimed that she had been given the mission by Saints Michael, Margaret of Antioch and Catherine of Alexandria to deliver France from the occupation of England. Jeanne managed to meet Charles VII, lead the French troops against the English armies, lift the siege of Orleans, and lead the king to the coronation in Reims, thus helping to reverse the Hundred Years' War course.
Jeanne was captured at Compiègne in 1430, after which she was sold to the English by Jean de Luxembourg, Count of Ligny, for the sum of ten thousand pounds. Jeanne was condemned and executed in 1431.
Beatified in 1909 and canonised in 1920, Jeanne D'arc became one of France's two secondary patron saints in 1922.

When I was in Grade 7 we all had to do presentations on historical figures and I chose Joan of Arc. I rehearsed it in front of my family and my younger brother was captivated (or horrified) by the phrase "burned at the stake". Except he kept repeating it as "burned like a steak".

Thank you Nieke and Jon for this wonderful collaboration on Joan of Arc. She was courageous lady who never compromised her principles. She felt she was hearing and didn’t allow anyone to change her mind. I’ve read articles from neurologists claiming she suffered from seizures but, it takes away from how remarkable Joan of Arc was. Thanks again for this collaboration. Hope to see another one. 😊

Jehanne la Pucelle sufferd no ''seizures'' and had no mental problems. Again, as mentioned previously, the voices and visions never happened. Should you take the time, to read the first authors from the late 15th century and the 16th century, they all mentioned that this was a political story to make sure that the Dauphin of France would be crowned King since the English aristocracy had an option to the Crown of France. Yolande d'Anjou was the mastermind behind of the scenes. She was the authority not the Dauphin.

Jehanne la Pucelle was a brilliant young woman of 21 ( from the Barrois region ) when she arrived at Chinon with Yolande d'Anjou to meet the Dauphin. Her voices and visions were from Catherine of Alexandria and Margaret of Antioch. However, in 1969, both saints were removed from the Roman Catholic Calendar of Saints since the Vatican determined that they never existed. They were part of the Medieval folklore. Concerning the male voice/vision, Michael the Archangel... he was a very popular saint during the Medieval Era, mainly because Mount St-Michel in Normandy had resisted English attacks for years. This was , for the general population a sign from God...

After her execution Charles VII ordered an inquest into the circumstances of her trial and execution. It quickly concluded that her trial was a sham, and the execution was arbitrary and unlawful. In 1452 a second inquest into Joan's trial was opened by Cardinal Guillaume d'Estouteville, papal legate and relative of Charles. Numerous witnesses were called who gave evidence under oath that her trial had been corrupt. He subsequently sent a report to Rome requesting her rehabilitation, but the process was delayed by the death of Pope Nicholas V in 1455. The new Pope, Callixtus III, ordered a new formal trial and in 1456 it returned a verdict condemning the original proceedings and nullifying all of their verdicts as well as her confession. Joan's execution was declared unjust. She had already become a figure of popular veneration, especially in France when in 1849 formal proceedings began to have her declared a saint. This was a long process. However, in 1909 Pope Pius X (who would himself be proclaimed a saint) beatified her. Eleven years later Joan was formally canonized in St. Peter's Basilica on May 16, 1920, by Pope Benedict XV.

This is incorrect. The Rehabilitation trial of 1450 /51 was advised by Regnault de Chartres. Since the English aristocracy had declared high and loud, after the death of Jehanne la Pucelle, in 1431, that Charles VII had used the help of an heretic, a witch, an evil entity to obtain the crown of France, his coronation at Reims should then be revoked. With the Rehabilitation Trial , the Armagnacs and Charles VII had beaten the English at their own game. In the first part of the 15th century, the meaning of French word '' Pucelle'' meant a ''servant'' . The meaning was changed to a ''virgin'' before 1450. Why ''virgin'' is important ? The general population of the 15th century believed that a ''virgin'' couldn't be influenced or controlled by an evil entity or the devil and the most important , a virgin would ''always'' tell the truth. How useful to Charles. When Hauviette, Jehanne' friend from her youth, declared at the Trial that Jehanne was 23 when she died , her testimony was put aside. The Rehabilitation Trial had to make Jehanne a very young woman ! The Rehabilitation trial was for the benefit of Charles VII , not Jehanne la Pucelle. Similar the first English trial , this again was a political trial. Jehanne la Pucelle, never used that particular family name '' d'Arc '' during her lifetime, was at the end, taken advantage of, abused and abandoned. To obtain the Sainthood process for the Maid of Orleans ( her name was changed about 1848 ) a request was made by the Roman Catholic Church of Paris in 1879, not 1849. Why 1879 ? After the Franco-German war of 1870/71 , France, especially Paris was in turmoil, the Communards had seized the government.... a national hero, a saint had to be found to unite the country again. After 40 years, she became a ''Saint" in 1920 , after the First World War This lengthy religious process is a story by itself, quite an intrigue. Jehanne la Pucelle is an amazing story from the early 15th century ; a brilliant young educated woman from the Barrois region, from an important family, who spoke several dialects and played an amazing role in the Hundred Year War.

You should do a video on Jeanne D' Arc's patron, Duchesse Yolanda de Aragon. Yolanda, who was a Spanish princess by birth, married a French Duke. She had tremendous responsibilities to deal with. Not only did she rule the duchies of Anjou, Provence, and Maine on behalf of her sons, but also she acted as queen mother to King Charles of France as his real mom sold him out to the English. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yolande_of_Aragon Yolanda had to deal with several powerful women during her lifetime, including he aforementioned Jeanne D' Arc, but also Queen Giovanna II of Naples who was a rival then an ally to Yolanda and her son, Duke Louis,en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joanna_II_of_Naples and Yolanda's daughter, Isabelle Reigning Duchesse De Lorraine. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isabella,_Duchess_of_Lorraine Isabelle, who was the first woman to rule the duchy of Lorraine in her own right, may have even met Jeanne D' Arc as Jeanne visited and Lorraine, and rebuked Isabelle's father for deserting his wive in favor of his mistress.asinusdocet.wordpress.com/2019/04/26/joan-of-arc-ran-out-of-sass/ Isabelle battled her cousin and the Burgundians for the control of Lorraine and the Aragonese for the control of Naples after the death of Queen Giovanna, while her mother in law was helping to fight the English.

This is an excellent idea, Yolande d'Anjou. Yolande d'Anjou was the daughter of Robert I , Duke of Bar and Marie Valois, the daughter of the King of France. She refused to give back Charles the Dauphin to her mother , Ysabeau of Bavaria; she said, just try to take him back ! She insisted that the Dauphin married her daughter Marie. Since both Charles and Marie played together as children, as ''brother and sister'' there was no love between them. The reason why Charles VII had numerous mistresses and also to ''keep him busy' from the leadership. Yolande d'Anjou with the Armagnacs , was the authority. She was the mastermind behind all the events of Jehanne la Pucelle. Yolande was at Poitiers, at Chinon when Jehanne met the Dauphin. Yolande paid for the army and all the mercenaries and all the supplies for Orléans. The military supplies arrived at Orléans in April 1429, Jehanne entered Orléans in May 1429, in triumph as the famous Scottish March of Robert de Bruce was playing... Without Yolande d'Anjou and all the Scottish troops on French soil, France' history would probably be different ... When Jehanne la Pucelle died in 1431, she was replaced after a few years , by Agnès Sorel... famous young woman who in her short live, changed Charles VII for the better. She was probably poisoned... Who was Agnès Sorel ? She was a ''Dame de compagnie'' to the wife of René d'Anjou, the son of Yolande. What a coincidence !! The Anjou royal family again ...

She called herself, Jehanne la Pucelle. She never used that particular family name, d'Arc during her lifetime. Prof. Henri Guillemin, famous French historian mentioned that '' d'Arc '' was an invention from the 17th century. Please see Henri Guillemin videos for the explanation. From about 1848, they were using, The Maid of Orléans. Today, Jeanne d'Arc or Joan of Arc.

This is incorrect ! First, Jehanne la Pucelle was not a ''young girl'' , she was a woman. The Latin document, De Rebus gesti Francorum mentioned that Jehanne la Pucelle arrived with Yolande d'Anjou at Chinon, in 1429 ; Jehanne was 21 year old. (She was in the city of Tull, Holy Germanic Empire, in 1428; she was 20 year old. ) She was in Tull to annulled a marriage promise which was accepted by the father, Jacque, a few years earlier. The fiancé was not happy. ( Bishop of Metz ) The English were still in France for another 50 years after the death of Jehanne in 1431 ! The entire language of a country was never changed because of a war during the Medieval Period, especially an aristocratic struggle . The Norman invaded England in 1066, played a major role for 250 years , yet the English population stayed Anglo-Saxon. All languages are usually slowly ''changed'' or modernized with time, needing several centuries.
