I was fortunate to sell some jokes to Joan. She was classy always, paid promptly and encouraged me. I treasure my autographed pictures from her and Phyllis Diller. I was able to be in the Green room the night the winner of the Look Alike contest was announced, I had co written the required 3 minute monologue. Jest wishes to all..

JRivers was a very smart woman. She majored in English and also before hitting show business, she worked in the fashion industry/ department stores. To have survived and stay on top of her game till the end is proof of her genius. She wrote 12 New York Times book best sellers. Scripted and directed a movie starring Billy Crystal "Rabbit Test". She was a force to be reckoned with and with her passing, she takes her rightful place along side the many other brilliant humorists and comedians

She’s right about Leno. She said it pretty perfectly here. He did have a tendency to act like it was just another day at the office no matter who the guest he had on his show. And it spoiled something for the rest of us that would have been more excited to watch someone react to a guest the way we would if we were in their shoes.

Chelsea is extraordinarily caustic. Any disgust they have toward each other, in my opinion, has to do with them being extremely similar. They both say things that are very cavalier, they are both trail blazers, and they are both limited in terms of empathy and ability to censor themselves or make reasonable statements. It makes sense that Chelsea really, really needed therapy and has benefited.

@@schroeder666 I don't think they were alike at all. Joan was actually funny and brilliant. Joan had a barbed wit, but she was never w/out empathy. @@Highinsight7 We have very similar taste then. I love Craig Ferguson too. Not sure why he wasn't bigger, but he wasn't a pc hatchet man like all the other sellouts that get big shows. It surprises me that Joan thinks Conan isn't that funny, because he's in my top 3 and he's not a pc hitman for the far left like is demanded now. Stephen Cobert used to be funny on his Cobert Report, and then he really sold out to get his late show and now he's not funny at all, just Orange man bad, every night and it's such a turn off. Caustically going after people for an agenda isnt funny. Craig never did that either, the wonderful Scotsman. (I said man, oh perish the though, lol)

I wanted to agree w/ you, but she wasn't dead on right in her assessments all the time, though close. She thought Jimmy Fallon was the closest to Carson. Hello? Don't think Jay was ever bored doing "The Tonight Show." It killed him getting fired from that job *twice.* Joan's comments probably come from a place of resentment over the way Jay maintained Johnny's ban on her doing the show. It was a mistake for Jay to do that, too, because it made her feel the same way about him as she did Johnny.
