Every minute of this series and the magnificent soundtrack is dear to me. I keep coming back to it after looking for the perfect period romance drama. For me N&S surpasses even pride and prejudice. The realistic portrayal of love and heartbreak in this brings out tears in my eyes everytime I watch it. And this is my 12th time...🙂

Same here. I think I am becoming a little obsessed with John Thornton….just a little, mind.😁. I’m currently reading one of the many sequels that has been written, & Oh My ! Not true to Elizabeth Gaskell’s writing but very much how I imagine John to behave once he has Margaret in his clutches.

Same. Its so rich with well-written female AND male characters! The backdrop of the industrial era, the plight of the poor, the commentary on social justice--Gaskell paints a canvas more vast than Austen dared to.

I love this story, I keep watching it over and over. And I had to read the book. The actors of this love story/drama are superb, the chemistry especially between Margaret and John is palpable, so real. British actors are my favorite, they are masters of their craft. Except for a few American actors - and I mean a few - I much prefer to watch the talented Brits.

Gah, this moment... to see him pleading for her to look back, searching for any sign, then to see the light just die in his eyes... I love N&S, always have, but this is such a powerful, heartbreaking scene, I can't help but get all teary-eyed even though I know it turns out well.

More heartbraking thing is she does look back at him, but he does not see it. This scene was meant to be about five seconds longer but then they cut it out of the final edit. You can watch it on youtube but it is even sadder.

The scene where he hopes she will look back at him didn`t happen in the novel. It was rather a genious move of the writers to let him say that...truly heartbreaking. “He loved her, and would love her; and defy her, and this miserable bodily pain.”- John Thornton

CABAHAB. The way I see it, she already fell way before she had a clue, in the middle a long time before she knew. I do think she genuinely hated his behaviour when they met, however there were so many indications that that behaviour was not the main feature of his character, therefore she had to consider him to be a good man despite that first encounter. Do not forget that many changes were happening in Margeret’s life at once. The decision of here father had a cascade impact on the life of all three of them together as well as seperately. Missing her brother continued always, also on behalf of her parents. Maybe there was not just one moment. As I recall from the few times I fell desperately in love, there was never just one moment. Some people do not experience it like that and fall just as truly, deeply and madly in love (by the way, that is a recommendable movie, with the wonderful Alan Rickman, as well 😉). Hope this helps a little with regards to your question 🤞🏼💞
