JOANNA BENNETT is one of the most successful stunt women working today. You know her from her work as Katee’s stunt double on the Mandalorian, she had a prominent role in Book of Boba Fett and she is Brie Larson’s stunt woman for Captain Marvel. Joanna discusses these roles as well as growing up in gymnatistcs and the issues she had with being in that sport and transitioning into the world of stunts. I liken them to video editors... We wouldn't have the same caliber movies without stunt double in the same way we wouldn't have great KZfaq videos without the editors... They're the unsung heroes!

I just watched the Marvels Assembled over the weekend and during one of the wire scenes were Joanna was wearing the weird crown and face blobs I had to go back because my brain was like "wait why would Katee Sackhoff be doing stunts on the marvels" which led me to look up Joanna's amazing career including being Katee's double. Such an amazing stunt performer.

I honestly found this interview to be one of your very best ones Katee. It was so interesting to learn about Joanna, her background, especially in gymnastics, and what is involved in different types of stunt work. I had no idea. Her character as the female tusken raider was my favourite from Book of Boba and she kicked ass. Katee, I didn't know you are a such a daredevil. 👍 You ask the best questions in your interviews to get such open, honest and fascinating answers.

“Captain Marvel” producer Jonathan Schwartz, who also produced the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies, callsLarson the "next Tom Cruise." “On any other Marvel movie, stunt doubles would be doing 99 percent of what she’s doing,” he said on the set. She spent so much timeat the stunt gym, "we sort of had to say, ‘You need to get some rest. Stop pushing yourself so hard.’ "But when you see this movie, the amount of practical stunts that she’s doing by herself will boggle your mind, and make you say, ‘I can’t believe they let her do that.’ ” While in intense workout mode, Larson sent clips of her preposterously difficultworkouts to co-star Samuel L. Jackson.

I love the podcast! Can't wait for the episode with Ming-Na Wen. Even as a huge sci-fi fan I've somehow never watched Battlestar so I've only gotten to know you from Clone Wars and later Mando. Interesting conversation about how someone walks about 1/2 through. When I was 10 I put on this realistic wig, sunglasses and a shirt I never wore and walked down to a little league game where my friend was playing. It didn't take long for another classmate to spot me and when I asked how he knew he said it was my walk. Also I saw a story a month ago the the Academy is discussing adding an Oscar for stunt work.

Didn't know that Joanna was doubling you. Thought that you were doing most of your own stunts. Visually undetectable to me. Joanna's Tusken Raider character was full blown awesome. Everything (costume/acting/stunts) was so perfect. Made a huge impression on me.

A lot of people and celebrities think it’s a cool macho/tough-guy thing to do their own stunts, but I saw an interview with an actor who changed my opinion, they said doing their own stunts takes work away from a stuntperson who is just trying to put food on the table for their family and who already makes a lot less money than the actor, that the responsible thing to do is to not do your own stunts. Ever since then it’s completely changed my opinion on actors doing their own stunts.

interesting - I live in WI. don't know shit about stunts except that diving in rocky sand during softball games is a bad idea, only convention I attend is the horror movie one in Kentucky - to get the fuck out of WI lol. Gymnastics has a fairly strong support locally here though - especially at the high school level. Hope for a another Mandalorian season, laters

Not "..just the stunt double..." after all. Say, what do you think about the mechanically activated light-saber ninja-star concept? A character in my own Star Wars universe uses this as her main weapon. You see, during an epic battle that I have not yet thought of, she actually almost dies in a battle with some dirty Sith, her saber cut in two, shattering the kybar crystal for which she later turns into the ninja stars...using the smaller fragments to craft them...blah blah blah...I digress, keep fighting the good fight! 👍 ❤

I KNOW RIGHT. I mean ALL the stunt doubles need when Scarlett got pregnant. Plus the fact that her stunt double Heidi Moneymaker does like 95% of her role.. Plus back in 2000s when Sophia Crawford was SMG stunt double and wasn't or reluctantly given enough credit again she did 95% of the stunts.. The stunt women on the first Captain Marvel weren't given enough credit either and that was also Heidi and her sister. The Stunt Men seems to get more recognition.

Thats because she was born in 1987. The 54 year old is Tony Bennett’s daughter. Edit: there are pictures of both of them and the information is about her but the age is about the 54 year old. It’s very confusing.

What irritated me Is the actresses who sign up for physically demanding roles.. You knew what you signed up for Scarlett Johasson playing BW Brie Lawson playing CM Why would you sign up for a role and not know your going to have to do fight scenes, falling down scenes and training scenes and wires work.
