It was the biggest failure by the Motion Picture Academy in its long existence. He gave the performance of a lifetime. I have no clue how they didn't give it to him.

It's acting - that's the whole skill of faking a huge attraction to someone, or acting half dead for a dying character, or insane for a character - that's pure acting. And once you can do it, it can be switched on & off as needed in front of a motion or still camera

Dominika Paksicza I doubt this alone sealed it. As charming as she is she actually didn't portray June very well at all. That doesn't mean she did act well. But Reese acted like a deep south southern bell whereas June is a hillbilly from the mountains. That's why Sissy Spacek, who also won the oscar, was more spot on for Loretta Lynn.

I heard the preparation both performers had to do to do these roles were deserving of an oscar in and of itself. I was told Reese was recommending professional singers for the role but I really feel she captured June Carter and I believed her in this movie it always impresses me when I see a famous actor or actress and I forget who they are when they are playing a character. When I was younger I didn't understand the love she had for Johnny Cash and the way she helped him, as I've grown up I see the love that she brought through his life. The movie did a great job portraying their love story. Highly underraeted and underappreciated I would say movie.

I ran an outidoor group and took people tree climbing . It was perfect . Started singing this song with the young woman I loved and she just naturally sang along . This version of the song reminds me off that . Relationship ended so it has more of a similar feel now

River Phoenix's acting is in my opinion groundbreaking. His portraying of Johnny Cash is so strong it gets under your skin, making you feel you are there with them/him in real time. Pure perfection. Sheer brilliance! Phoenix becomes Cash. The darkness in him, the volatility, and the loving, caring sides to his personality. Phoenix gets everything right. In my opinion his acting makes him a legend in his own right. Reese Whiterspoon's acting is absolutely superb as well. She moves a stratosphere beyond her previous movies, and how she is playing June is marvellous and very impressive. She pushes her forward and lets her shine, in all her strength and character. This movie is a masterpiece.

really excellent film. whatever they got paid the were an almost criminal bargain. i would have never know of the excellence of Johnny Cash if it werent for you Joachim and Reese.. The only really good things in my life is the stuff thats been there all along , like these songs. i would have probably never known if it wasnt for this film that i got for free. truly tremendous achievement,thank you so much !
