I doubt there is any Democrat in Texas who doesn't know what Republicans think. If there are Democrats living in a bubble, they live on the coasts; and they are mostly in a bubble about the true depth of the wileness, hypocrisy and stupidity of their conservative fellow citizens.

Totally agree, but sometimes it's difficult to come to a common solution when core principles are so misaligned. Example, as a healthcare worker there are two camps: those who think the govt should provide for the health of its people and those who think health is a privilege. Makes forming policy very difficult, let alone treating someone who comes into the clinic

Once again a great argument to get rid of the winner-takes-all electoral system. Most democratic nations don't have a single majority party (and no single minority party as well for that matter), so people always have to bridge partisan divides and tribalism doesn't breed as excessively as it does in the US. Time for the country that claims to bring democracy to all parts of the world to bring democracy to themselves...

Wolfram Stahl. Good point. But in a coalition government, various parties have to be very careful not to lose their soul. It happened in my country, in which the left had to make concessions to the right. And then got their signals mixed up. And it cost them a lot of votes. So IMHO, these are waters that have to be navigated very carefully. Back in 1995, a socialist education minister (or secretary) made reforms in the educational system, that proved to be extremely damaging and unpopular, because pressures from the right were too strong. And she did not have the strentgh, nor the know-how, or perhaps the courage to stand up for the teachers and for what they were about to lose. That reform and its consequences still resonate to this day. And the teachers felt, rightly, betrayed. Now, one has to o the job with more overcrowded classes and less pay. But are still required to achieve success. Of course, we have adapted as well as we could. For the kids. But the work conditions have gotten very difficult to deal with. And now, there is a shortage of teachers because those who work do so under such strained conditions get ill or very depressed. Whenever I speak to a colleague, and I express that we did well under the circumstances, the answer is: "yes, but what a price we paid". And that is the truth. Sorry for the ranting on a separate issue. But, it is meant as a word of caution, perhpas misplaced. It is just that when people from different political perspectives have to work together, it requires a whole new level of civic responsibility and determination. Just my thoughts. Best regards.

No system is without flaws. The American system just seems excessively flawed compared to other, similarly developed countries that elect their representatives in a more democratic and harder to abuse system. Still, a bit of context and further consideration does no harm, thanks for sharing your rant :D

I think the problem is, it is very AMERICAN. We have to change how we look at these things. As if they are some exception to the rule. When time and time again, it has been shown, it actually is the rule. And we as Americans, are having a hard time accepting that. We keep trying to say a certain behavior is "Un-American".

@ 3:13 The difference between a consultant and a lobbyist is like a taxi driver and mechanic. A taxi driver (consultant) has the car, has the license, and will take you to the specific place you need to go. A mechanic (Lobbyist) will tell you what your problem is, how he can fix it or make it better, and will push you for things you may not need but are beneficial for the mechanic. Cohen doesn't have a license, a car, or the expertise to be either. His only selling point was, "I know a guy...potus".

Another Trump? Ahhhh. But you judge the son by his mother, who had a stormy past in the 1970's. (www.expressnews.com/150years/people/article/Rosie-Castro-community-and-political-activist-6153232.php) Lets not confuse mother and son... this is certainly not his track record. Lets see some facts about HIS past and present views first friend. And remember, what's good for the minority is good for the country. Nothing wrong with a president that wants a country that cares about the 'little guy'. And the mother may have had ample reasons to have said things 40 years ago that you don't like cowboy.

Michael Ball You deleted this message to me: “So you judge the son by the mother? So all your kids are as fucked up as you? Huh.” I used no profanity. I let you know what I know as a constituent of him as well as his brother. My mother was very ill most of her life and put my brother and I in dire circumstances. I acknowledged her influence and chose not to procreate. As did my brother. So you can dance and say “yeah, he’s not in the gene pool”. I don’t care. What I know is that parental politics very often are influential in their offsprings choices, much like religion. So I hope you did something nice for your mom on Mother’s Day. May my Mother rest in peace.

Nobody’s religion is any of your business and in no way, shape or form should you be forming judgments about someone based on it. You are entitled to your beliefs and the rest of the world is entitled to theirs. Attitudes like yours are what start wars in the name of God, during which people are forced to commit atrocities that far outweigh the repercussions of using a different book to pray with or believing in different prophets.

I don't have a problem with lobbying on behalf of the American people, but most lobbyists represent the interests of their corporate benefactors against the interests of ordinary citizens. Heck, often times they are the people writing the legislation. And, it was frankly a lie to say most lobbyists have an expertise in the field they're lobbying for. How many Congress people go straight from office to lobbyist. It is clearly ALL about access.

I don't think you got a good answer to your question, Trevor. But, I also don't think that your guest was being evasive. I believe your question could have been framed better and that THAT would have lead to a better understanding. My understanding of what LEGAL lobbying involves is; getting insight from subject matter experts that routinely and reasonably get paid to give their advice to lawmakers. The wide variety of subjects that elected officials are expected to establish policy for THEORETICALLY can benefit from expert advice. The process gets muddled when lobbyists are effectively REPLACE the lawmakers; eliminating their actual involvement in the law making process and making a mockery of our democracy. As a pseudo journalists you can tell, and this question you asked in this part of your show as a matter of fact proves the point; trying to get a fair, honest, complete understanding of complex issues takes work. Getting fair, honest, intelligent insight from She's can be a great help. This is in fact the basis behind lobbying where lawmakers are concerned. Nobody can be expected to be an expert in everything. But, nobody HAS to be, either. We can count on having a few smart guys that know the laws relating to representing industries and special interests to Congress. If they are fair, honest and TRANSPARENT, then there is no PRINCIPLE reason for why our lawmakers shouldn't be able to leverage THEIR in-depth knowledge, wisdom and experience in making better laws and lasting policy.
@bozbozp
@bozbozp 6 жыл бұрын
anthony the question is a conundrum. lobbying in and of itself is un-fair, un-honest and certainly not transparent. these lobbyists arrive with their expertise/knowledge in laws to benefit their corporation. they are not there to benefit citizens rights. the only thing transparent is lobbyists are there to pay for influence to increase [their] corporations holdings/money and decrease their taxes. we never know who the lobbyists are, what they are lobbying for and what corporation is involved until oops! they lobbied to send out factories to other countries, lobbied to have offshore accounts and pay no taxes, they lobbied to hire part-time employees to avoid paying benefits, they lobbied for visas to bring in cheaper tech workers, they lobbied to put pensions into stock market, they lobbied for mergers between big companies[now you have no choice but to pay exorbitant prices and hidden fees] yada yada. none of this was done to benifit citizens of america. lobbying is buying influence for the rich period. whether it is sanctioned by signing up for it or paying behind the scenes. all of it is crooked. the government takes our tax dollars to pay their sarlaries but then get paid again by accepting gifts, money, vacations, golf trips, housing, [[donations]] from the rich. IT IS CALLED BRIBERY. Joaqin couldnt answer the question.
@AnthonyELewis
@AnthonyELewis 6 жыл бұрын
bozbozp, your response shows you care and understand exactly what's going on. And, I appreciate your taking the time to give my thoughts your time and attention. Of course it's clear that we principally disagree on the core issue. However, it's also clear we both agree that the issue itself is of immanent importance. I'm not a lobbyist. I don't know any lobbyists. But, even if it's extremely naive of me to think so, I like to believe that there is a meaningful role and legitimate, constructive purpose for keeping ETHICAL lobbyists involved in the political process. As a private citizen I've on a RARE occasion had a chance to speak face-to-face with a member of Congress. I've hated it and refuse to believe that the representatives ever enjoy the either. There has got to be a better way for us to effectively communicate for meaningful results. I don't believe that money is speech. We need to reverse citizens United immediately. Until that happens, we need to work within this dysfunctional, broken system. And, that system includes lobbyists. The scandal that is grabbing headlines now will soon enough fade into obscurity as soon as the next horrifying disaster comes to light. But, the importance of transparency in lobbying will always be important even when there is no media spotlight glaring on it. The current scandal underscores how there is a moral bottom floor underneath we must fight to keep from sinking beneath. As corrupt as things are, we must fight to keep them from getting worse. This kind of CONSTRUCTIVE conversation serves the purpose of making sure our collective sense of what we define as normal doesn't fade away.

well we definitely disagree on the need for lobbyists. there are no ethical lobbyists. they are paid by rich people for rich people. [like drug reps are paid by pharmaceutical companies]. they go to washington for 1 reason and 1 reason only[the special interest of the corporation that hired them]...i remember watching a movie, i believe running man, where the people voted live or die[thumbs up or down]. and i thought this will be true someday. WELL that day has arrived. in this age of technology the people/citizen should have their say. LOBBYISTS do not speak for us. i also dont believe that this issue of present scandals can ever fade into obscurity. it has taken hold, divided the people, confused the citizens. people no longer trust in each other, no longer trust in the government, no longer trust in the news/media outlets. this is going to be a long road to travel. with all the communication, transprency, bipartisanship, preached to us by pubs and dems, still we fall further and further behind. but hold on america. im done with my rant anthony.

Elenea Vanek Thank you for that great compliment and feedback. I took the looking side of a debate. But, we maintained civility and respect. I believe that's important. What us also important is a much broader engagement on the current set of political issues that are vital to our democracy. We DO have the ability to rally together and reach a consensus when fair minded, good intentioned, intelligent and informed people come together. The search for the truth is paramount. I know about ALEC. I know how could and reprehensible the lobbying industry is. Their reputation didn't manifest itself out of a good. It exist for a VERY real and justified reason. But, there is an INITIAL reason for why lobbyists came into existence. I wouldn't want to see that history forgotten. I don't know how -I- would be able to do an elected officials job effectively without expert advice. And that, I believe, is what is at the heart of why lobbyists evolved. The most amazing thing I see is, lobbyists are complaining that the current crop of scandals are giving them a bad name but not justifiably. You know the situation is bad when the the truly reprehensible (or, deplorable), argue that THEY are being portrayed unfairly.

Here's my question for America: Why are you paying attention to the ADS on Facebook? The whole Russian interfering in the election by putting divisive ads on Facebook scandal flummoxes me because I don't use Facebook to read ads, I use it to interact with people I know.

i do understand his hesitance about answering the lobbying question... he'd be working himself into a corner if he admitted it was corruption outright. i think trevor's main goal was just to edge as much as possible out of him without pressing him too hard to answer. either way it's a conversation that needs to be had.

I really like the way KZfaq will sometimes tell you who pays for a broadcaster. Like for RT it says funded by the Russian government. then you know who is providing the content and what bias or motive they have. Maybe Facebook should do the same, let people know if the page or ad is funded by Breitbart, Russia, a partisan organisation or a non profit.

With little notice, President Donald Trump recently signed an executive order that advocates say rolls back hard-fought victories for women in the workplace. Tuesday's "Equal Pay Day" - which highlights the wage disparity between men and women - is the perfect time to draw more attention to the president's action, activists say. On March 27, Trump revoked the 2014 Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces order then-President Barack Obama put in place to ensure that companies with federal contracts comply with 14 labor and civil rights laws. The Fair Pay order was put in place after a 2010 Government Accountability Office investigation showed that companies with rampant violations were being awarded millions in federal contracts. In an attempt to keep the worst violators from receiving taxpayer dollars, the Fair Pay order included two rules that impacted women workers: paycheck transparency and a ban on forced arbitration clauses for sexual harassment, sexual assault or discrimination claims. Noreen Farrell, director of the anti-sex discrimination law firm Equal Rights Advocates, said Trump went "on the attack against workers and taxpayers." "We have an executive order that essentially forces women to pay to keep companies in business that discrimination against them, with their own tax dollars," said Farrell. "It's an outrage." Out of the 50 worst wage theft violators that GAO examined between 2005-2009, 60 percent had been awarded federal contracts after being penalized by the Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division. Similar violation rates were tracked through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Labor Relations Board. Now isn't that order very consistent with the sexual criminal confessions we all heard not once. but on two separate occasions during the Axis Hollywood bus. previous to that during his interview with Howard Stern. Former prosecutor Gov. FBI director Giuliani. Said those audiotaped criminal confessions were nothing more than locker room talk. Not according to criminal psychologist brain specialist those audiotaped criminal confessions were much more consistent with a jailhouse confession from one inmate to another. Or a prison reminiscence from one convict to another who are living out there sentencing in protective custody, for sexual crimes are classified as the weakest form of criminal conduct. Not to mention any other prosecutor in the country would take two audiotaped criminal confessions as enough evidence to prosecute. And then when you have 14 witnesses come forward and validate everything that was on those audiotaped criminal confessions.Would be enough evidence to convince any judge of a conviction. Well any judge except for that desperate week insecure impulsive poor specimen of a female judge that goes on and on about how great it is being a submissive trumpet blower. And you wonder why America has the highest violent crime rate in the world. You wonder why America has the highest drug addiction alcohol dependency in the world. And you wonder why America has the most overfed undernourished people in existence. is not all gloom and doom. We can deal with this situation. As a people as physically fit mentally sound and spiritually balanced Americans. At the same time we are dealing with the situation in life. Subconsciously spiritually there souls and spirits are being implemented with, all the pain suffering disease sickness illness torment and hunger that has been allowed to occur over the years manifesting into what it is today. Thanks to incompetent lazy ignorant reckless negligent vindictive criminal leaders supporters employees employers. And now going to get far worse if Donald Trump his submissive trumpet blowers desperately impulsive employees have their way. Now let us thank our heavenly father for allowing Ronald Reagan Donald Trump supporters followers employees like-minded people for subconsciously: coherently apparently volunteering their soul and spirit to function similar to an air purifier water filtration system steam cleaner rubber gloves sponge shield bedpan urinal ass wipes blowup doll. But plug tampon maxi pad diaper jump rope ankle weights wrist weights weighted vest punching bag so forth and so on. Etc. etc. and that is the short list of how their souls and spirits are being treated. Before we get into how their souls and spirits are going to be implemented with all the pain suffering disease sickness illness torment and hunger that has occurred over the years manifesting into what it is today. Keep in mind my submissive trumpet blowers the soul and spirit can endour one up to billions of years worth of pain suffering disease sickness illness torment and hunger .that is just a sample Of the miraculous power of spirituality eternal authority that exist beyond your comprehension for your life cannot commonly comprehend things past your life's expectancy. Now I wish and pray for my soul and spirit to be held spiritually accountable to the statements I proclaim. I guarantee you will never hear another body leader person of legal authority ever validate the statements they proclaim with that level of certainty. If the sun the father the Holy Spirit God the devil Lord Jesus or anyone else with true eternal power and authority over life and death. Felt differently about the statements on proclaiming the had four separate opportunities to keep me dead and silent. The bottom line is you're either part of the problem are part of the solution when it comes to equality between a man and a woman as well as respecting another persons physical freedom. See a dominant gentleman knows how to intelligently persuade passionately convincing a woman to have the desire to willingly want to share themselves romantically. your part of the problem are solution. Either way your being held spiritually accountable. One way comes with a pleasant form of rehabilitation physically mentally spiritually. And the other way is the opposite of the first way. Again I wish and pray for my soul and spirit to be held spiritually accountable to the statements I proclaim. I guarantee you will never hear another body leader person of legal authority ever validate the statements they proclaim with that level of certainty. One reason they don't know themselves therefore they have NO respect for themselves and can't respect others. Secondly is because they are not willing to hold themselves accountable to the way they live their life to the laws the put in place. For the laws they put in place will greatly influence whether you live and die Feeling accomplished being at peace. The bottom line is Donald Trump has been clinically diagnosed by scientists criminal psychologist brain specialist! Leading physicians As being physically and mentally submissive! To fill that massive void a weakness) His plan to stay on the top! Is by keeping the bottom sick week desperate hungry and malnourished and poor by recirculating dirty low-paying jobs that come from outdated power sources inferior materials and toxic substances. That have lived out there usefulness for they have been classified scientifically as petrified death! More commonly known as coal oil and gas dirtiest of all sand oil. Along with other toxic pesticides! Chemicals that never changed their killing composition. You cannot promote life by using a substance that diminishes the quality of our air water food and landscapes. Dirty low-paying jobs very few at that however will have a negative effect on hundreds of millions for only God knows how many generations dirty low-paying jobs that diminish the quality of our air water food and landscapes with the potential of causing environmental collapse there is no profit to be made in the demise of the planet businessman my ass! Just look at the BP oil spill. The man-made water crisis situation in Flint Michigan. The man-made water crisis situation at the military base known as Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. The fly ash spill that occurred from Duke Power in North Carolina. Those are a few examples. . . Of the irreversible damage that comes from working with outdated power sources inferior materials toxic substances. That have been scientifically classified spiritually validated as being physically mentally useless therefore have no true value spiritually. Now a dominant gentleman or lady that knows how to demonstrate high-class sophistication which is femininity at its finest!! for it is raw wild naturally hard-core organically appealing truly captivating absolutely internal eternally spiritually sought after by the gods and goddesses of the ancient royalty, warrior elite...... knows the best way to stay on the top is by keeping the bottom confidently rising in the most efficient way that is humanly possible, allowing each generation to become stronger smarter healthier happier financially better off. For that possibility of a reality to come full circle. The people must have clean high-paying jobs that used new technology. Allowing the people to fully utilize on advanced self sustainable renewable power sources. New Age top notch materials resources, that you could use this much is you would like or need without leaving any excess toxic waste behind. equally as amazing our products can be) Manufactured mass-produced in state of the art facility's I am talking about clean high-paying jobs from coast-to-coast globally. That improve the quality of life by enhancing maintaining the quality of our air water food and landscapes! Products Imports exports personally professionally To the highest degree of standards. Clean high-paying jobs that will be available every day of the week every week of the month every month of the year. Throughout their life allowing them to have a retirement that they will be healthy and wealthy enough to enjoy. xox XXL=00

It's on us too, folks. Yeah, rules can be changed and tightened up to help, but ultimately it's on US to exercise critical thought, consult multiple sources, and be aware of the risk of confirmation bias and consciously take steps to reduce its influence over us. With great access to information and freedom of speech, comes great personal responsibility.
