ARTIST: Job for a Cowboy
ALBUM: Moon Healer
RELEASE DATE: 02/23/2024
US Store: metalblade.indiemerch.com/col...
EU Store: eu.kingsroadmerch.com/metal-b...
The iconic extreme experimental death metal lineup of Job For A Cowboy had some long-awaited unfinished business. After nearly nine long years of silence, they have awoken from their slumber, forging "Moon Healer", the follow-up to their previous landmark album, "Sun Eater".
But why the extended wait? “I had to take a step back in the band for family. It was the catalyst that eventually created a fork in the road for all of us. We all drifted into our separate paths,“ explains frontman and band co-founder Jonny Davy. “Fatherhood, additional music projects, academic degrees, and careers outside the band took priority and life’s focus,” so the band agreed on a prolonged hiatus, but with the door open for a return. “Everything lined up for us to collaborate on a new project together, it was time to cross the threshold for something new,” states Davy.
With "Moon Healer", Job For a Cowboy has woven the thematic qualities of "Sun Eater" and used them as a platform to launch deeper into inner and outer space, using fictional situations to ponder the possibilities of existence outside the carbon-based form. For fans of experimental, progressive, and extreme death metal, "Moon Healer" is a satisfying, transformative metal journey unlike any other. And for those who wish to dig a bit deeper, it’s a sonic epiphany, with or without psychoactive substances.

I dont mind the general tech vibe but i do prefer the jazzier line of tech. More reminiscent of the early tech death like atheist and cynic. Less like necrophagist. And no diss to necro. Just most bands took that tech approach

I only ever knew these guys for the pig squeal stuff from their earlier days. I avoided the band thinking they were as one dimensional as the kids who enjoyed that aspect of the music. Man I'm glad I was wrong. This album has incredible depth. Technical without being mathematic or compulsively so..heavy as you like but without feeling corny or forced. Full of grooves without being plagued by constant breakdowns. I'm glad I can appreciate this now.

Genesis was their first foray into tech death. They been tech for a looooong time.

I'd have to disagree. Genesis was deathcore, and a little experimentation. Ruination was where they changed it up quite a bit. Then the member changes and Gloom is where they really changed and demonocracy (which is at the bottom of the list for me) sun Eater was fantastic and this new one is just as great.

The sequence from 12:10 - 12:55 is so fucking good. That subtle change in tempo is so elegant. That whole track is an absolute lesson in great writing.

I think if all someone is looking for is just "heaviness" then they care more about surface level nonsense. This is tech metal. Idk why theyd even be here

@timperry2375 I hear you, but this album has to be on the top three this year and not two or three. 8 perfect songs, didnt over do it or made long songs, kept it fairly traditional, and the way the album flows is just natural. Also, the band to me has taken a massive step forward from the last album. From beginning to end, it traps you, and that's an excellent album from Job
