@@BBenoist I will tell you why. Because I have been job searching since *JUNE,* hoping I would be able to obtain a position by the time I graduated college in January, but that ship has sailed. Been networking (almost 200 connections), reaching out to employers, applying, etc. The only opportunity I found was to volunteer, so I took that role for the time being while continuing job searching to gain experience that would make me a stronger candidate, but unfortunately I lost my volunteer position last month, which I am still extremely upset about, and now I'm back to square one. Every interview I got was basically turned down because they cite my lack of experience. Very absurd how these employers expect a recent graduate to have a TRILLION years of relevant experience for an entry level job. Sad how extremely competitive the job market is. So i would be extremely happy if I finally get a job offer and accept it, sharing the news to all my connections & letting other employers know that I will no longer be interested in their position I applied to. But if that job offer gets rescinded, then I would be extremely sad and probably cry cause then I would have to start ALL OVER and re-reach out to everyone to tell them the awful news. Just horrible

Always wait until you start our boarding day and paper offer. I usually use sick days for that process just in case something goes wrong. As a Bay Area resident most companies here they do that a lot of times.
@BBenoist
@BBenoist 4 ай бұрын
Great suggestion about using the sick days. Besides, most of the companies only pay unused vacation when you leave.

I had a client move across the country for a job, only to be completely miserable ! He found a new job in another city, but lost some money on the new construction home. Who rescinds offers ? Good for her . Wait for an offer in hand .Like a home contract . Verbal is meaningless........ Awesome advice Bill !

I had a company that rescinded the offer refuse to give me a written offer a month later and refused to pay me for the day come to find out this same company was a defendant in a class action lawsuit for not paying employees and they was know for mass layoffs 😢
@BBenoist

That is horrible. It's bad enough when a company rescinds and offer for a legitimate reason like a hiring freeze. But to not pay employees for work done is simply unacceptable. I hope the class action lawsuit was successful for those who filed

I had a job offer 2 months ago, it was about a position that would open in a few months. as you said I didn't say anything to my employer because I wanted to see if I was going to get hired in the first place. when the time came they started giving excuses without saying openly no, which seemed very strange to me, and finally they told me that they can't hire me because there is not enough work and when things get better they will definitely call me back. They instead offered me another position that was some miles away far from my place of residence and given the fact how expensive gas costs are right now, I would need half of my salary to pay for gas, much less the time I would waste on the road. my question is how should I think of the whole situation and what is your opinion of this?
@BBenoist
@BBenoist 9 ай бұрын
It sounds like the company has an interest in you and that says a lot. Be proud of that. With that said, I do not think they should have made an offer based on the possibility of a position in the future. No telling what would have happened if you told your current employer about that pending offer. Another red flag was hearing you say they continued making excuses when you questioned them. I think you did the right thing in turning down the position further away and following your instincts.

Personally, I would contact an employment law attorney to learn about your legal options. You may be entitled to compensation.

I just started a new job and been helping with the onboarding process. I called the candidate to see if the person was still interested in the job and stated to the person we will write an offer the end of the day or next week on Monday. The person sounded really excited about the job, but my hire ups stated they question the person’s experience. I been stressing about it all weekend… What’s a good response to tell the candidate that their offer has revoked? Even after telling them we’ll write them an offer letter? I feel so bad and this is my first time messing up an offer. Just to clarify, no offer letter was actually sent. Only a verbal, but I misunderstood my hire ups.

Thanks for posting this video! Great advice! I have a second interview for a company I used to work as a contractor for about 11 years ago. I was let go from that contract with no warning and never given a reason. So I don't know if it was for performance or something else. Anyways, I applied at that company for a position in a different department. I asked HR if there was an issue that I contracted and was let go before. The HR person said no and that there is no record of me working there because I was a contractor. She said that there wouldn't be any record of me because I wasn't a permanent employee. But I wonder if being let go is a bad look. I got called for a second interview and was wondering if this would be an issue moving forward with this company and if they may rescind an offer based on my past experience with them. Any info or advice you can give me would be appreciated!

Eleven years ago. working as a contractor, no H/R records kept - my advice is not to worry about any of this. Don't bring up the position or talk about it. If you are asked about it during the second interview, simply say it was a contract position and from your understanding - the position was eliminated or not needed anymore. Don't go into any further detail and don't bring it up if they don't. Good luck with this. Please keep me posted.

@@BBenoist: Great to know. The HR person got back to me and told me that the position has just been filled. Don't know what to think of that but she did say that she would contact me if anything new comes up. I already mentioned working there in my interview and its also on my resume. Good to know this information for the future! Thanks!

So it seems like even if you do get something in writing and sign it and have agreements with a written contract even then they could still resend your offer so I guess don’t ever leave your current job or make any big arrangements without starting on your first day seriously otherwise you could be in my position and legit lose everything and your livelihood
