The Mallard family is in a bit of rut. While dad Mack is content to keep his family safe paddling around their New England pond forever, mom Pam is eager to shake things up and show their kids- teen son Dax and duckling daughter Gwen -the whole wide world. After a migrating duck family alights on their pond with thrilling tales of far-flung places, Pam persuades Mack to embark on a family trip, via New York City, to tropical Jamaica.

The chef could afford a helicopter. I guess the restaurant business is more profitable in this universe. Also, why is he both willing to spend a bunch of extra money to buy ducks from an organic farm instead of a factory farm for his clientele but is also eager to cook up two wild ducks that materialized in his kitchen and could have god-knows-what parasites? Does he care about his clients or doesn't he?

When you do a cartoon movie about talking birds in a mostly-realistic setting, there will definitely be similar plot beats.

Not really. Both movies have some similar aspects, like the characters being birds etc, but they're completely different stories. The parrot in Migration is also a secondary character, while in Rio they're main leads.

@@tclcstudio4070 When you make a story where the protagonists are birds and the villains are humans, you want to set your climax on a plane to take advantage of the fact that the birds can fly, and have your protagonists lose their flight and plummet down only to gain their flight back right before they hit the ground.
