We've all heard the story of the babysitter and the killer phone calls right? "The call is coming from inside the house!" Yet there are so many others that have permeated the zeitgeist. So it's no surprise that someone took them, wrapped them up in a nice little bow, and gave us a lovely slasher featuring as many as they could manage. Because today, we're going to get into all the gory details of 1998's Urban Legend.
WATCH OR OWN THE FILM HERE: bit.ly/3ypfowD
Written by: Eric Walkuski
Edited, and Narrated by: Tyler Nichols
Produced by: Lance Vlcek and John Fallon
Executive produced by: Berge Garabedian
SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: WTF Happened To This Horror Movie?

I actually find this movie to be a guilty pleasure. Who wouldn't want Jamie Lloyd as your roommate, Freddy Krueger as your teacher, Chucky as a gas station attendant, and Lex Luthor as a class mate?

Yes, but it's a little too self-aware of how ridiculous the entire story is, a bit too tongue-in-cheek. Still, it works very well as a comedy.

This movie gets some slander but I really like this movie it is a classic I love the opening scene with Natasha Wagner and Brad Dourif it's definitely on par with Scream 1 & 2 opening scenes Tara Reid have a underrated chase sequence to and I will say between this movie Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer this movie is the most dark out of the 3.

Urban Legend, I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream was always like the trinity of slasher films in the late 90's but Urban Legend always got the short end of the stick I like this movie I like that the kills are based off urban legends and Brenda was a good killer Rebecca Gayheart played a good killer funny cause she was meant to be Ghostface in Scream 2 in one of the scripts.

I got the chance to see it in a theater. At that time Joshua Jackson was trying to get away from his “ Pacey” character on Dawson Creek. There is a scene where before he gets offed the theme song to Dawson’s Creek comes on and he along with the audience groans in unison. It was a great moment to be a part of.

This is another of my comfort movies that get put into the DVD player often. I love the look and feel of the movie and the cast is stellar. Rebecca Gayheart was just so mesmerizing throughout the film, beautiful throughout and then insane at the end. And Loretta Devine was wonderful, I kept going through the movie going, please don't kill Reese.

I truly fucking LOVE Loretta Devine in this. I remember seeing this movie with my mother. When Loretta was trying convince the Dean to close the college and she mouthed "ASSHOLE" when he turned around, my mother burst into tears laughing. Loretta is the Legend in Urban Legend, which is why they needed her for the second.

Well Brenda had a motive that was ahead of it's time and Scream the TV series second season adopted in getting revenge for their lover being killed Brenda kills was brutal and creative some of them were based off urban legends and some weren't.

I had such a crush on Alicia Witt. I was 9 and I saw this just after The Lost World: Jurassic Park with Julianne Moore. I think the combination cemented a thing for redheads in my brain that survives to this day. Also Alicia Witt was in another film a few years before this called "Fun" which is surprisingly pretty great. Recommended to anyone who wants a half way decent thriller.

Always loved Urban Legend! When it came out, I had just started working at a movie theater, so I missed it on opening day as I was working. I was jealous of the kids going in to see it. 😅. But yeah, I holds up very well all these years later and, at the time, I thought it stood out from Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer since it had a little more gore.

I saw this at the cinema back in the day and I liked it quite a bit. It would be an interesting rewatch because I don't think Scream (other than the Drew Barrymore opening) has stood the test of time all that well and I Know What You Did Last Summer definitely hasn't aged well.

I was 13 when this movie came put, yet I had heard of all the urban legends featured within prior to that. I was always into that sort of thing though. Having watched a lot of Unsolved Mysteries as a child that show kind of birthed my facination with anything mysterious, so naturally an interest in urban legends followed suit.

These are the post scream type of films I kind of watched back in the day but don't remember much of. I know What You did Last Summer comes to mind. Final Destination (which ended up finding itself with a lot of traction later) Cherry Falls. Soul Survivors. You know, The trailers that have these typw tag lines near the end or the beginning of the trailers... "from the producers of screams younger brother who went to school with the director". " By a guy who works in the studio who heard that Scream made a lot of money" Or just the blatant, "if you thought Scream was scary. Just wait until you watch "Yell"! ". Like when a VHS box has a picture of a dude with a chainsaw and it says something like , " Junior makes Leatherface look like a chump". I love Robert England . I will watch something I probably wouldn't enjoy if he shows up . He is a national horror treasure ! Love these breakdowns .

Watched it for the first time in about 10 years haven't seen it since I was a kid. Yeah now I can see it is pretty corny and now having since watched scream in the intervening years I can definitely see how derivative it is which my cynical mind can't ignore. I genuinely thought this was edgy and groundbreaking and wondered why it wasn't more talked about.😆 Much easier to enjoy when you are ignorant of its obvious influences I suppose. All that said, there's nothing offensively terrible about it , it passes the time nicely. Sequel is pretty good too.
