All these cameos are making me so excited. I'm fighting the urge to resist bouncing up and down in my chair right now. I wasn't even expecting Red and Blue from Overly Sarcastic Productions to be here, but I'm so glad they are! The ending of the video has a really great moral about how, sometimes, it's best if not everything goes the DM's way. The players are just as much of storytellers as the DM is, and if nothing goes the players' ways, they might not want to play anymore. You have to learn and adapt to your players, make up a compromise to keep them interested while things don't go completely south. It's about finding a balance between Order and Chaos. What a perfect way to end the series. Bravo!

People (especially new DM's) forget that DnD is a *cooperative* storytelling experience. So sometimes the best decision is to let other people make the decisions and wing it lol
@Lupostehgreat
@Lupostehgreat 7 ай бұрын
This is extremely true. Every DM has to step back from time to time and remember that the players won't be interested in the story unless they have some impact on its progression. An example of linear stories that feature extreme player input would be the better Telltale games like Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead, where the choices the players made throughout the episodes could make or break the ending. Think also of Fallout New Vegas, where the weight of choices and character builds throughout the narrative could lead you to a host a different endings that all essentially communicated the same themes, but made the choices the players made the point of the story. This is an example of the kind of stories that DnD campaigns should revolve around. I like to aim for this level of thematic depth while also aiming for the more operatic grandeur of JRPGs like Final Fantasy, Breath of Fire, and Suikoden. Whether or not I achieve this, my players have to determine that. However, the moment I stop listening to their input and having the world bend around their choices is the moment that the game ceases and it's just stories around the campfire. Now there is nothing wrong with stories around the campfire, but there is a big difference between that and TTRPGs.

Not going to lie man, three years later and that line at the end "Everyone, Roll for Initiative! Ahhh ha, this is fun" that still gets me to tear up a bit. There is just something so genuine and pure in the delivery and the build up to it. Love it.

Hi! Sorry, new to D&D here. And by new I mean I played one 3 hr session and thought the DM role was so bad*@ss that I want to make it my main role! 2 things. 1 I had no idea a D&D party could go passed 7 players! 2 Why wouldn't people want to DM? It's the most diverse role!
@Ledecral
@Ledecral 2 жыл бұрын
@@sarahholzapfel4230 People don’t want to DM because their job is to make the entire story for the campaign. Sure, you can use a pre-made campaign, but lots of times players will do things that can derail the entire story, and you have to improv on the fly. The more players you have, the faster you have to think on your feet, to the point DMing can be crazy stressful. Edit: Also, you have to figure out the enemies they face are depending on their levels, classes, etc., because if you pick poorly they’ll either steamroll the campaign or all be killed every other session.

It really hits home cause as a dm, I feel I say those words to my players the most when they wanna do some crazy thing. "Can I roll to pickpocket the giant?" "You can certainly try." That phrase is where the best times of dnd happen

@UC_whyX_414zUwTBCMDhjNZQ honestly that feels like unfounded fears. Literally just talk to the guys and 9/10 so long as you don't sound accusatory they WILL be fine with whatever changes you want to ask from them. I once had this drood triton pothead. His player was constantly acting like high and it was to the point it was difficult to communicate with him. So I just wrote to him after the game, explaining the situation and he didn't need me asking-he straight-up promised to try to be better. As DMs we all fear that the love we put in our work won't be matched by our players. And it won't. But so fucking what? I can't tell you how much my heart grows when I see my players interacting with my baby and raising it in a manner that I couldn't even dream off. I mean writing a story is nice and all, but isn't it nicer to be able to experience it alongside your players, as you all discover the beauty you bring forth when your imaginations overlap?

Actually, there could be potential if you run 2 groups of 6, with 2 DMs, each group in the same world but sessions running asynchronously. 17 around one table (by my count at least) is Abserd, however.

@makomachine7643 3 жыл бұрын
Or do because usually only 30% of them would show up most of the time anyways. That's a solid table of 4 or 5 a session lol
