Was in NSW from 07-14. A two star admiral in the Seal teams working at WARCOM came to my command around 12/13 and gave an entire speech regarding integrity and widespread steroid use at the team's and how the utilization of the needle doesn't make you a better operator. Steroid use is extremely rampant in NSW and to say anything other than that is extremely foolhardy. It was to the point where leaders would give their subordinates a heads up on the "random" piss test that would occur in one month. Furthermore, there are no piss tests on deployment.

I realize the pulling someone out of combat was kind of a joke - but there is a real concern with being 'Natty' when it comes down to knowing what the "real" capabilities of your teammates are... you just might be temporarily or for an extended period, cut off from your supply. Then, depending on what you are doing - you can end up being a helluva lot more worthless than your 'natty' counterparts until you level out. I really don't care who does what. When it comes down to mission-ready though... I really think it is fine to be hyper selective with testing during training. You've just gotta know, for the very reason mentioned... what are you going to do if you can't rely on your teammate? Anyway, I really enjoyed the back and forth on these - great sports on both sides. Have a good one!

A shot of nebdo lasts for 8-12 weeks, just a thought. There are plenty of compounds one can run where you won't notice any loss of effects for a month or longer. You might not see any more improvement, but you won't see any loss. VigirousSteve has some good videos about this. I'm not saying you don't bring up good points because you bring up great points, but I'm sure this is a solution many military members on gear use.

My brother was in the special operations realm in the Marines and when I asked him about this he said it was generally a squad dependent thing and was all kept between them. They do in fact get dishonorable discharge if they get caught but it has to be someone that actually rats them out with evidence and the higher ups put it all in a balance scale perse to determine if it's even worth the hassle or scandal. I personally have a very good friend that's a Ranger and the only time he was on gear was on actual deployment. In essence it's a known thing that since nothing bad has happened because of it, higher ups turn a blind eye to avoid a potentially huge scandal. There are a LOT of warriors on gear and I personally am glad they are because they need their performance enhanced more than ANYONE in my humble civilian opinion.

I think Jocko stands to lose too much if he comes out saying he's not natural, his whole thing is that he sets the standard by example and if his example isn't attainable without steroids it undermines his "brand". Guys like Derek and coach Greg are making money from us BECAUSE they are open about it. That won't happen for Jocko.

What sets Jocko apart was completely decided by him choosing his parents wisely, He looks very strong and determined, plus he has the real world attainments. Jocko is someone who could stop training and still be inspirational. Derek not at all.

@@seancidy6008 whilst he’s obviously a genetic phenom, the majority of people won’t view it that way. People will think ‘oh he’s on gear so this isn’t applicable to me’. It is BECAUSE he appears natural to most of his fans people view him so highly

@@freddie_connor9202 In a sense a lot of what Jocko says is not applicable because as you say and as is apparent from a picture of his face (and cranium) he is genetically/ pre-natal tesosteronised to rare degree, so a lot of that strength and determination is innate. But he is inspirational to people wanting to have more self discipline nonetheless, so I think it is bad manners, snide, what Derek is doing. He and Jocko appeal to different demographics anyway so he is not going to win any followers from Jocko.

Not the most uncommon thing for the military to say something is officially against policy but not aggressively enforce it. The guys who get popped on recreational drugs are typically much less of an asset than guys on gear would be. Even relatively recently fighter pilots have used stuff like amphetamines to keep them alert on 20 hour flight missions

To his later point about maintaining peak performance. Is there a downside that soldiers might want to avoid if they don't have consistent access to PEDs? For instance, if they perform a lengthy operation or travel somewhere with no access to them, would they then suffer some form of withdrawal? If so then I would think that consistent performance would be more important if you don't know the situation you are going into. No idea if that's the case though

One thing that never changes: People want to believe in heroes and will believe anything their heroes tell them no matter how dubious. Jocko is an ex-military dude who is now selling an image. Followers of that image want to pretend he's showcasing his life out of the goodness of his heart. That altruism may indeed be there as a partial, supplementary motivation for him. He may indeed find personal value in helping people better themselves. But he is also making his living, a very good living, from it. If it was purely altruistic it would look very, very different. He's a deeply-into-middle age dude selling an image that claims he sleeps almost half the time of "normal" people, works out multiple times a day 7 days a week and has the physique of an absolute tank. And that he fuels it all by nothing more than eating simply and healthily. People want to believe in this to inspire themselves. And that want to believe is how he is making good money. He is a Tony Robbins for the 2020s. None of this dynamic is remotely new in any way. This always comes along. People always want to believe and somebody is always willing to sell it to them. There is nothing new under the sun. Before any Jocko fans get upset: None of the above is a criticism of you if you like Jocko. If the image inspires you to improve yourself then it inspires. But it is indeed an image he is selling. An image is never the whole truth (and always check how much you're spending or getting advertised to).

The 1 rep max calculator puts Jocko's 1RPM at about 475 lbs, and that'd set him at around 405 for 6 reps. While I find the calculator is slightly off, it's pretty good with guesses if it's within the 10 rep range.

People are basing that Jocko is not on steroids because he's a well respected guy. That is just absurd you can be a good person on steroids. They need to base this off of science and at his age it's just ridiculous. There have be numerous counts of special forces on gear even Dan Bilzerian mentioned that 1/3 of them are at least taking it. People need to base this topic off of logic not feelings.

Its possible that he's on gear, but he's always been pretty much the same size even throughout his military career. If he were doing gear for that long he'd be facing even more adverse health defects due to the demand it has on the body. Just because he's huge and can lift super heavy weights doesn't mean he's on gear, he's probably just, y'know an ELITE HUMAN MADE SPECIFICALLY TO FIGHT WARS OR SOMETHING?!?!

"It's just science" - provides no scientific sources to back up the claim "Even(!) Dan Blizerian says so" - ... "He says he's not on steroids, while the guy across him is busting out of his shirt" - ??? If it's so important for some people to prove that the other person (who's not competing) is on something then please make sense. Those type of statements (because you can't call them arguments) completely destroy credibility of people who think there is some gear being used.
