I was born in Mexico and moved with my mom in California because she had her clinic there. I remember living in Los Angeles next to a family and every day it was joe playing. I didn’t know English but maaaaaan this song was hitting different. Now as an adult I know why I liked this song so much. I’m a young guy listening to Joe lmao. Have Mercy. I think I told this story before on here, but a Sis is gonna tell it again. I was about 16 years old when I heard this song on the radio. What pulled me into it was how he sang 'Baby.' I could never get the name of the artist. Every time I would hear it on the radio, I was too late at recording it. I kept hearing it over and over and I learned the song. I called my local radio station, K97.1 in Memphis, and spoke to Stan Bell. I sung it to him and he was like, 'oh, that's Joe!' Ya'll, when I tell ya'll the next day, I asked this dude who liked me at school named Connie to take me up the street to purchase this single! Ya'll I skipped school to get this single and TO THIS DAY, I still have the cassette. I wore that thang out to the point that the sleeve is all torn and withered and the cassette itself no longer shows the title or any of the words on it. I knew I was going to be in hella trouble with my mom if she found out I skipped school with a bunch of boys no less, but it was worth it for this song!
