Let's thank Freddie King for this epic song. Loved listening to his version for the first time. But, when Joe started playing the goose bumps just exploded down my legs. Great vid tonight guys. Loved it!

The "Live at the Greek Theatre" show was the final concert in Joe's "Three Kings" tour, where he featured the songs of B.B. King, Albert King, and Freddie King. He plays Albert King's guitar on "I'll Play the Bllues for You". This is one of my favorite shows from Joe.

Love these performances in this whole live at the greek. That was Reese Wynan's on keys. One thing I admire about Joe is he's willing to pay tributes to the greats and is so humble about it. Another thing is he is bringing it forward in time that opens up a gateway for fans to then go listen to BB, Freddy and Albert. This was the 3 Kings tour. I wish I could have seen it in person. Thank you for both performances and appreciating both versions. 😊

Really enjoyed both versions. The original was all about the song. The second version was more of a performance. Which was fantastic. Just demonstrated two ways to play a song and getting Two great performances.

Both great. Joe would acknowledge that without the likes of Freddie, he wouldn’t be who he is.

Lol -- I almost never say this in my comments, but I think you shortchanged Freddie King, George! That song is at least a 9!

Yep. Mahalia Barnes - Jimmy Barnes's daughter - is one of Joe’s backup singers. The one on the right hand side. All three are Australian actually.

For what it’s worth , for me on that desert island, it would be ‘Tales from Topographic Oceans’ and ‘Out of the Blue’ for the two albums. After almost 50 years I am still finding nuances in the former so it would stand up to a lot more listening. The latter would always cheer me up. As for this song, I need a dark, smokey, sticky floored, bar to really tune into blues like this. It just seems out of place on a huge stage somehow.

In Freddy King's version I got stuck in the bass line and how it locked in with the drums, and the piano was really good lower in the mix. This is rightfully a Blues classic. Joe Bonamassa's version was the beneficiary of more modern instruments and production. However, that said, Bonamassa f*cking killed it on guitar (and I have to say, on vocals too). Joe is in rarified air on guitar, there aren't many guitarists on the planet that can go with him. He is a rare talent. I also thought the keys, the brass section and the backing singers in the Bonamassa version were wonderful. However, I reckon there was a link to the Barnes/Bonamassa video of 'Stone Cold', as I think that the Trumpet player (I don't know his name) was featured in 'Stone Cold' as well. I could be wrong; I haven't gone back to check. Verdict: This is a tough one, but I land on the side of the Freddy King version. That driving bass and drum line throughout was almost primal and really does something for me. That pushed it over the line for me. I'm up with Alex on this one, a score of 8.8

Crowded House Greatest Hits and TTB - I am the Moon IV: Farewell for the albums. And I wouldn't hate them at the end. Amazing song, at least a 9.5 if you ask me. You guys always lowball it. ;) Freddie King is amazing! Nice to see Alex put his hatred of Joe Bonamassa (there is a N in there) aside for a bit and admit the man is one of the best guitarists alive today. :)

Both tracks were great. But if I could bring only one of them to my desert island, I’d chose the Bonamassa track.

Just curious would you rather spend an evening in your local pub with your favorite beverage watching a man and his guitar. Or would you rather be at a theatre with a larger show ie band. No judgement as both artists are great talent. That being said what environment would you prefer to be in. For me I would choose the local bar environment. Ps would no turn down tickets as Joe is a great performer and his band is kick ass. Just curious.

Both can be great and depends on artist maybe. ( George here). I do have an upper limit on venue preference though. Over a couple of thousand people and I am less interested. Not a fan of stadium shows for example.
