Joe Cocker was so amazing. Even the Beatles couldn't believe when he covered their songs and how he made "With A Little Help From My Friends" so, so much better. They were baffled by it (and rightly so). Such an amazing singer. Have soul in his voice!

When Paul McCartney heard Joe’s cover of that, he said that for him it was the definitive version, miles better than The Beatles original.

Yeah, horns get funky right out of the gate. That dirty, scruffy voice of his was made for blues. THE GREAT UNITER! You can feel the presence of the co-singers, shivers, so much texture, feels so gripping and smells like hard work and much deserved private sensations.

What *I* love the most is how so many people that were musical stars in their own rights were so happy to play an instrument or be backup singers in the background, just to be up on stage with him, enjoying the atmosphere. It said a lot when people like Leon Russell, who was a headliner himself, was willing to just play guitar or piano in the background.
