His biggest quality is speed to help VVD out in the highline to intercept and trackback. But when the opposition swarms into the box, his positioning is poor, tackling clumsy and overall not that bright. This dates back all the way to when we had Lovren in CB. Many fans were having a go at Dejan but there are many times Gomez was the main culprit.

He just tries to be too casual sometimes. Has no range in his passing/crossing, isn't really good at heading, and tactically he gets caught out.

He used to be decent but this season after coming back from the injury, the way he defends, too many times he thought too much. He has to be more direct and simple in his defending. Seriously think the club should sell him away if he continue this form. Liverpool should actually kept Nat Philips. Not sure what the coaches are thinking. Next season, i hope Liverpool can buy two CB, 2 CM and 1 senior utility player. But wonder if they have the warchest.

Breaks my heart to see how much Joe has fallen as a sturdy defender....was excellent when Rodgers bought him then had that first serious injury, then looked to cement himself as Van Dijk long term central defensive partner and that season again serious injury, he's had at least 5 long term bad injuries in space of 7 years it must have taken its toll . Joe Gomez big problems for Liverpool

Gomez is not well tuned in to the mental side of the CB game, lately. I do not think he has played two excellent games in a row since coming back from the Covid break. A lot of that has to do with injuries, but injuries cannot be an indefinite long excuse for poor focus. Of all his errors, that first Real Madrid goal makes me the most mad. A defender has to be mentally and physically ready to squeeze towards any opponent with the ball in the box and make the opponent uncomfortable, not sit back and let the play happen to you. 21st minute of a big game! Are you tired already? Need to substituted before half time? He has a lot of positive traits: speed, strength, pretty good technically, pretty good forward passing. He needs to settle down. I would be inclined to rotate him with Trent at RB. When he gets into a run of good form, try him again at CB. Liverpool need two center halves this summer, one for Gomez's slot and the other for Matip.
