A must-have synth according to the Brixton producer.
Late last year, electronic R&B rising star Joe Hertz treated us to an excellent Against The Clock at his South London studio. But, we wondered at the time, what's the deal with the Virus TI2 bit of hardware by Access he used during that session?
We asked Joe to give us rundown of that most treasured instrument, explaining to us why the Virus TI2 is one of the most unique synths on the market.
In the video, Joe breaks down its key features and demonstrates how easy, versatile and user-friendly it is. One word: want.

I bought a virus TI in late Jan 2020, after researching multi-timbral polysynths. I have no regrets. TY for video.

That's a good idea re: recording your tweaks after laying down a motif. Would be especially powerful in a DAW that will keep creating separate comp take tracks as the midi loops. Got my first Virus currently on the way here, can't wait! (TI2)

this is very useful way to work with midi and synth. i had always little problem with my timing when i record synth directly. i can use your technique and it will help my music be on time anymore :D i will try this with my good old yamaha mo8 :D keep up good work.

Next to the Moog the Virus has one of the best most visceral sounds out there for a hardware synth along with DSI Mopho and Oberheim synth. Still at 2-3k, wonder if still worth getting considering new versions of high end polysynths like Modal and Solaris have more recent updated technology for similar price range?

I have ti2 DarkStar but hasn't been powered up for quite a while the new Roland fantom I mainly used for Virtual analogue stuff you can really hear the difference 10 years makes vs the DSP, the filters on the fantom for instance are so much better..... I would never part with my access virus though

Can somebody please explain to me, what this machine can do that software can't?. I love Joe Hertz and you can clearly hear this piece of equipment being used in his tracks but for £1500 i don't see how its worth it when essentially he's just using Reverb and the cut off. I know there LFO filters but there is in most soft synths. Thanks

@Heathcliff_hensel

You can also draw in the the midi controller data on your DAW with a pencil tool. Like if you wanted to slowly open the filter over the course of a long pattern you just draw a ramp shape thats assigned to the cutoff of the synth. There are actually a lot of tricks using midi CC data you can even draw in LFO type shapes if you want.

John Drees The TI2 is designed to work without a computer, recording automation, like sweeping the filter manually will be down to your sequencer. I use the Polar version, (Identical to the one here except it has a keyboard with Pitch and Mod Wheel) live in basically any project, in a studio I use it with its USB function. Exactly the same result both ways. Fits your workflow.

+Renaissance Man It all depends on what workflow you find desirable and how much it is worth to you. I chose to spend the money on a Virus Ti2 module because I grew up on hardware and needed a synth that was not only versatile but tactile and intuitive. Massive is much cheaper and sounds awesome, but it wasn't for me. Honestly, most people would be better off with a VST.

I believe you all are misinterpreting Digiphex's comment. What he meant was because of the lack of recent major updates from Access, further development of the Virus line has stalled. He wasn't wrong.
