Me, trying to be serious and watch this song and performance, hearing a hyena laugh while I also laugh at the god damn comments complaining about her feeling extremely bad about it.

For those who hated the lady who was laughing: So when I first saw this, I completely agreed with all those "who the hell could laugh at this?!??" comments. That is, I did until I played this in the car with my dad. He, too, laughed, even mock picking at grout after Michael did. Once it was over, I asked him what he thought, and he laughed and said, "That guy's got issues." I asked him what made it so funny and he shrugged, saying, "I don't know, it's some guy being crazy in a bathroom. It's funny." Now, before I got pissed about this, along with sad that that meant I probably shouldn't tell him about how I feel most of the time, I quieted and thought about it. Then I came to realize that it wasn't just my dad who felt like this, it was most of his generation, especially where he grew up. Being in his mid-fifties meant that he was young in a different time and environment than I am, and that in his specific time and environment, no one really showed compassion towards the depressed, anxious, ect. It's not just how he grew up. I, however, am in an age where these people are just that: people. They're no longer laughing stocks and weirdos to be kept away from. They're just like everyone else. However, this didn't mean that he couldn't ever come to see that. I continued the conversation with, "Really? I thought it was pretty sad." He raised an eyebrow, so I continued. "I mean, he's crying about being abandoned by his friend. Wouldn't you be pretty broken up about that too?" He shrugged, but I could see as he turned back to look at the road in front of him that he was actually considering this. Maybe, with a little time, he and people like him could start to understand how to feel compassion towards the mentally ill. They themselves just need a bit of compassion first.
