"When a boxer is knocked down, the referee shall order the opponent to the farthest neutral corner of the ring and pick up the count from the timekeeper or the official counting for knockdowns. Should the opponent fail to stay in the corner as directed by the referee, the referee shall stop the count and redirect the boxer to go back to the corner and resume the count at the point that it was interrupted. In the event of any knockdown, the timekeepers count will cease when picked up by the referee whose count shall prevail and be relied on by the boxers." This is from the WBF rules. I found it in 30 seconds. I wish people wouldn't talk so much nonsense when you can easily check it online. Wilder moved away from the Corner he was sent to which is why the count was stopped.

Your deserve more upvotes. Gave you one. Joe is incorrect concerning that rule then. The referee did nothing wrong and picked up the count where he stopped it and not where the ringside count was. Everything ok.

The point everyones missing is that Fury follows the refs count before getting up at 8 both times. Its not like he couldnt get up immediately had he really tried, but most trainers i know insist to make the most of the count if you're knocked down. If the refs count was bang on Fury would still have got up at 8 both times. Its a hollow argument.

It's never been a 10 second count. It's a 10 count. This leaves some leeway to the ref if he feels the fighter has a chance to come back. It's not perfect just like calling balls and strikes in baseball. I also believe that Wilder's infraction of not staying in the neutral corner does indeed pause the count.

You all sounds like ignorant idiots. According to queensbury rules it’s a humans 10 seconds count. Meaning it isn’t timed but when counting, should always be as close to 10 seconds as possible not to cause controversy. It’s not 20 seconds, it’s not 5 seconds, it’s 10 seconds. The only reason they call it “10 count” instead of “10 second count” is because a human can vary in counting and it will not be exactly 10 seconds but should be as close as possible. A simple google search can tell you all this

He still benefited from a long count. Even if he was still ready to go. Jesus christ. Does no one know the rules of boxing. Wilder did not retreat to his corner so the ref had to put him back there then went back to the count. Happens all the time in boxing. Sorry Joe, you're wrong about the count. This has been analyzed over and over by people who know more about boxing than you, and the count was legit. It's supposed to be a 10-count, made by the ref, at the ref's pace, this is specifically clarified in the rules of boxing. It is NOT specifically supposed to be 10-seconds exactly. Also, if he has to stop counting because the other corner does something wrong (such as not going to a neutral corner, like WIlder did in this case), the count is SUPPOSED TO STOP while the ref addresses it. This is INTENTIONAL. It is meant to be a penalty to the corner for not doing what they were supposed to do. Also, Tyson is CLEARLY watching the ref, waiting for the count to get up. If the ref had counted faster, Tyson would have gotten up faster, this is obvious when you watch the replays.

@@h00liganEnt the counter is a reference - for auditing purposes (the ref can go along with it at their discretion). In the 1920s, standing opponents were going to their own corners during counts to get advise and drinks from their trainers. So a rule was put into place where if the standing opponent doesn’t go straight to a neutral corner, the count will be stalled at the referee’s discretion. In other words - If you want your opponent counted out, get to a neutral corner as quickly as you can and stay there. If you count Wilder’s knockdowns, they were also long too.

They don't want to know who the better fighter is anymore, they just want to say their guy won. Fury really wasn’t knocked out. He looked pretty much disappointed in himself. If you wanna ruin boxing just make it a strict 10 second count and you could have plenty of fights ending earlier than they should. I believe this fight would’ve actually ended with the first knockdown of Wilder because as far as I know technically that was also more than 10 seconds.

There is a slight mistake in the rules interpretation. When a person is knocked down, the time keeper starts the count while the ref sends the other fighter to a neutral corner. That part was correct. If the standing fighter strays from the neutral corner (like Wilder did) the ref will pause the count as a punishment/deterrent for wandering from the neutral corner. This also assumes Fury wouldn't have otherwise gotten up. He looked aware and wanted to take his time. The lesson: stay in the neutral corner.

The ref outranks everyone, including the timekeeper. The ref guides the timekeeper not the other way round. If the standing fighter leaves the neutral corner the ref is to suspend the count and pick up from where he left off. That's the penalty for not going to the neutral corner quickly and staying there. That's how it works in boxing, which definitely isn't the sport people seem to think it is. It's not about who can punch harder, it's not a race to a 10 second knockdown. It's the art of punching to the body and head while dodging punches from your opponent. The ref is supposed to use his discretion to see if a fighter can continue and still defend themselves intelligently. You have up to 12 rounds to beat your opponent to the point they can't continue to box, or to land more clean punches on the legal target than they do on you.

If the fighter doesn’t stay in the neutral corner the ref can pause the count while he directs him back to the corner. The person at ringside just begins the count but the ref takes it from there and is the only person in charge of the fight. Rogan is wrong here.

American bias is some of, if not the worst bias there is. They're so used to being head and shoulders above competition in the few things they compete at internationally or so far behind, that in the few international sports they compete in that are close they have no idea how to be reasonable and objective about it. They basically think that anything they are competitive in, they should just dominate by proxy. It's beyond cringe.

Joe’s ignorance of the 10 count rule is exasperating. While it’s true that the referee picks up the count from the timekeeper initially, as soon as the ref picks it up and starts counting the timekeeper stops and whatever the referee counts is the “official” count. Anything that distracts the referee during his count effectively stops the count, which will then be continued after he gives whatever instructions that delayed the count in the first place. Also, it’s not a “ten second” count, it’s a count to ten. Some referees count fast, some count slow (both within reason). The referee in the 3rd fight was more on the slow side, but he was consistent in his pace for when both Tyson and Wilder were knocked down (people have synced videos of them to prove it).

I'd never heard of Joe Rogan before when I saw this headline, I mistook it for Martin Rogan (the retired Irish heavyweight who was stopped by Fury a few years back.) I thought maybe he was having a dig for old times sake. Then I realised it wasn't him, it was just this professional mouthpiece whose opinion isn't worth shit. And just to illustrate the point, I played back the two knockdowns in Round 4 with a stopwatch. From Fury hitting the canvas to being back on his feet it was 9 seconds exactly. for both knockdowns, and that doesn't even take into account Wilder's delay in going to the neutral corner which according to some (including WBA rules) should de deducted from the count, contrary to the bullshit that Rogan is making up here. So, longer than the referee's count, yes; and I'm not sure what the ringside timekeeper counted, but one thing is for sure, these comments from the professional mouth Joe Rogan and his studio bumchums are (unsurprisigly) complete and utter bullshit. Then again, from the way they were mocking Fury's physique and wetting their pants over Wilder's right hand, it's pretty obvious where their sentiments lie, which makes the result of the fight even more satisfying.
