Even though this was done for laughs, these instrumental arrangements are absolutely brilliant!

I read that Sinatra's real-life arranger, Sammy Kahn, helped Piscopo put this together. Together they completely rewrote the original lyrics/score. Supposedly Sinatra himself enjoyed it.

yeah, it's like someone made an act right here that someone else with the guts to do it could redo this bit, but, of course, modern audiences wouldn't recognize most of the songs.

He would not have done the Sinatra impersonation on TV without Frank's approval. Any entertainer in the NY NJ area to a beating if they made fun of the Chairman in a distasteful way. Ask Don Imus, who was threatened by some people of Italian descent for making too much sport of Frank when he was ailing. Imus stopped immediatly.

You are right M CK, those arrangements are tight, man that was too cool, I'm 49 and from Philly, can't believe I've never seen this before, WOW

@@randallmiller8238 That's because Sinatra's own arranger Sammy Cahn did the arrangements. They are perfect

I love how Piscopo stays in character the entire time, including the snubbing of Belzer at the end. Great work from the band too, keeping that arrangement.

Sort of like when Frank was doing the Duets thing at the end of his career. Bono was in the studio with him. At the end Bono thanked him..Frank's answer: yeah, sure, Blow Nose.
@wnerko74843 жыл бұрын
That was great.joe doesn't get credit for much.but the snubbing was funnier than anything any modern comedic actor would do now.they try to capture that but few succeed.joe nailed it

Having seen late Sinatra performances - Piscopo absolutely nails the essence. ..really captures the feel. There's a reason his Sinatra deal was so popular. Take a look at other people doing Sinatra. As far as the singing -- as other people have said -- this is a parody.

I have sitting on my CD shelf "Rock Swings" by Paul Anka where Paul does "swinging" versions of "Eye of the Tiger", "Wonderwall", "Jump" and, if you can believe it, "Smells Like Teen Spirit". It's the whole Piscopo routine, but done for real. It came out in 2005 on the Verve label. Amazing ...

I never cared much for Piscopo unless he was doing Sinatra, and his Jerry Lewis from the telethon days was pretty good too. My favorite Piscopo as Sinatra performance was on SNL when he was singing the Woody Woodpecker song, when the second line of the song ends with "Pecker song". I wish that were on youtube.

I think the best tributes to rock & roll are ones that don't take the music seriously and instead have lots of fun with it. And it doesn't get any funnier or better than this. Piscopo is wonderful and really gets the essence of how Sinatra would have probably done such songs if he had chosen to do so. Sinatra often claimed to hate rock & roll, but so many rockers loved ol' Frankie!

This is just Brilliant! The folks who say he's a bad singer absolutely don't get it! I think this was at "Catch a Rising star", He's introduced by Richard Belzer, and I'm pretty sure the band behind him is most of the Blue Brothers' band...on loan from snl, I guess, I see Donald "Duck" Dunn, Mr. Fabulous, "Blue Lou" Marini (>) and at least one other familiar face...don't see Matt "Guitar" Murphy, but "Frank" was only using horn section, I think.
