Hate to sound so cynical but as much as I hate the con men doing shit like this, I have to say that the people who keep falling for BS like this are like the few gazelles in the savanna who were just not fast enough and got caught by the lions. The fact is that not everyone of us is going to make it. I didn't used to think this way but you keep seeing these people believing in this nonsense even after it's proven to them that they have been scammed. If it's not Popoff, it's just going to be the next con man in line.

For a week? In high school way back in 98/99 I pranked these cunts every day, for year. I always called up with some ridiculous ailment and asked if the miracle spring water would fix it. The best was when I called and told the lady on the line that my dog was cut in half by a train, would the water bring Lucky back to life. She just hung up on me. The line was drawn when we called them from a mall using two pay phones and ' crossed the lines ' so the operators were talking to each other. Every time we called after that, they said the name of the city we were in. So clearly Peter invested in some phone tracing technology.

I told the psychic to go forth and copulate . She was sitting 3 tables away from me and heard me and my cousin said about my mother. She repeated it back to. Me in her own words avd tried to make it look like my mother "spoke" to her from the "afterlife"

He seemed gracious enough, like a lot of people w/ evil intent do, which has a tendency to lower ones guard. Why hasn't the judicial system made it illegal to emotionally conn people, especially in a spiritual manner? Probably because the ones making the laws are also the ones pedalling, or at the very least, gullible enough to believe in various spiritual cons, and they may be at risk to be jailed for their own con games.

not a lawyer, but even though this might seem like an open and shut case to a lot of us, legally this probably falls in a grey area. For one thing, I am sure these con men can hide behind freedom of speech to protect them. Also, it is not as clear cut as me selling you a laptop over the net, and you either getting a defective product or never receiving it. These con men are selling something abstract that is not quantifiable, God. To make matters worse, a lot of the victims don't actively pursue these people either out of denial and embarrassment.

My whole family still believed in that stuff even after he was proven to be a fraud. They would say "Those are people who don't believe, they want to make God's power appear to be fake!" Those videos where people fall down have tricks too, I went to one and they have people they call "associated with the congregation" (maybe different names at other places) like people who attend the same church regularly each week. When you notice them more they're in specific places in the crowds to prevent injuries. They know how to fall while holding the person in front of them so nobody will get trampled, most have the exact same suits on with kneepads, sweatshirts, sweatpants basically really thick clothing under. I noticed it because all those guys who continue showing up fall the same way, other people will fall left or right or in more natural ways than scripted. It was after I fell on one of them when I noticed it was like falling on a couch. I've fallen on people before who had jewelry on or car keys, the staff arranges the crowds (putting larger people in specific areas) then they make you stand single file before they do it. The seated parts are different where all chairs are bolted to the ground, most people seated are rehearsed (I didn't fall one time and people would be holding hands and drag you down with them. He also mentioned another trick they use, where people will take their watch or ring off and say things like "I hope I get healed tonight, this won't do me any good after I'm in heaven!" You notice several rehearsed people who do it each time you go, and I was going there since I was a child.

+MFJon777 "Dumb ideas" You mean like social equality? "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." - Galatians 3:28 Helping the poor and the needy? "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:40 Forgiveness? "“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven." Luke 6:37 "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." Colossians 3:13 Love and good deeds? "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds," Hebrews 10:24 "Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God." 1 John 4:7 "Science denying" Astrophysicist Hugh Ross, philosopher William Lane Craig, Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at Oxford University John Lennox, and Francis Collins, who led the Human Genome Project and now heads the BioLogos Foundation, which wholly embraces natural evolution while also holding promoting Christian beliefs--you mean *they're* science deniers? I have personally known many pastors of various denominations (from Catholic to Protestant) and after looking into their lives, I’d say the vast majority are true believers who at least try to live what they preach. Lives of poverty and simplicity. The televangelists, even as a kid, always came across of something evil. There’s something not quite right with them. I am glad that, at least compared to years ago, they don’t seem to be as powerful as they used to be. Popoff was a real “innovator” in that he went straight to the natural conclusion of many televangelist ministries: tricks and magic to get as much money as possible.

People get old, fragile, others suffer in various ways and become vulnerable to human snakes. If someone said to me "I can talk to your dead father" I would punch them in the face. Human frailty is as varied as is imaginable (from their life experience, circumstance, genetics....whatever) and others see this as an opportunity.

Today I'm walking to work and thinking to myself that I have to be more active. Actually start taking time to do the things I love, get my body in shape, read some new books,go out more etc. Just in general to be more active etc. While I'm thinking all of this I look up and there is this huge billboard and it says '' BE ACTIVE ''. Then a few weeks before this happend I'm walkin on the same path to work and thinking of one of my best friends that I never get to see anymore because he moved away. I'm thinking how we lost touch and probably will never be like it was before. That same day while I was at work I look at my phone and I see he called me and texted me. Sometimes shit happens that even us non-belivers have to stop and think about these things for a moment.

I'm so conflicted with this kinda stuff. On one hand, beautiful coincidences can seem almost mystically timed. On the other hand, give somebody thousands of days, tens of years, millions of seconds in a lifetime and something unique is bound to happen.

You're assuming materialism to argue for materialism. That's called "question-begging." Truth is, you have no idea as to whether or not this man's experiences are only "coincidences." You are only assuming that. Occam's razor? You'd have to know what the simplest explanation is and if his experiences are not coincidence, then how could you argue for what that may be?

That's the amazing thing about humans and cognitive dissonance: someone can get caught, be proven to behave in dishonest ways and people will either be disgusted or they will allow for any excuse to serve as an honest reason for the behavoir to be a) misunderstood or b) forgiven. Cognitive dissonace works well on the deperate and the ignorant. Innoculate yourself by understanding how your emotions work AND how your thought processes work. Being innoculated by such self-understanding/knowledge will make it less likely to be bamboozeled.
